Unfortunately, we must cancel the February 27 community meeting. Our flyer was forwarded and posted to a distribution beyond our intent without or permission or knowledge inviting proponents of this zoning change. Our intent was to talk with waterfront property owners and those living close by who shared our concerns.

Our community hall is not an appropriate venue for a potentially large gathering and we had concern that we were not prepared to accommodate a broader attendance.

We are disappointed we can't meet face to face, but we will continue to send information in the future.

Attached is a flier that explains how you and other neighbors can take action to help going forward.

Several of you have written Councilman Volke and County Executive Pitman. Thank you. For those who have not yet written them, please consider doing so. Both can be reached as follows:

Hello everyone.

We very much need a few minutes of your attention now. Later, you may be moved to invest more time. This is up to you.

We are fortunate to live on Rock Creek. What a blessing it is! But this may change in the future if we fail to protect it now. There is an information meeting scheduled for 27 February from 7 to 9PM at Rockview Beach/Riviera Isles’ community hall (see the attached flyer).

It is critically important to attend this meeting to fully understand what is going on. It is also critical that you write Councilman Volke and County Executive Stewart Pitman to express your opinion. Our committee is working to influence the writing of the pending legislation and to marshal support for our position. Councilman Volke has expressed support for PYY’s requested zoning change to MB/MC. This is why it is critical that everyone show up to talk with him about our concern.

It seems to us, waterfront property owners, kayakers, water boarders, swimmers, and anyone concerned with the peaceful enjoyment of Rock Creek should be concerned about this rezoning.

Why?

1. A boatel could double, or triple the boat traffic on Rock Creek.
A restaurant/bar like Mike’s will add both noise and boat traffic on Rock Creek
2. Increased boat traffic will definitely result in more wakes, increasing risk of damage to vessels, bulkheads and piers along the creek.
3. Unprotected shoreline will likely erode more quickly forcing landowners to harden their waterfront.
4. Swimmers, kayakers, water boarders and fishermen will be forced to deal with additional noise and wakes.
5. Anyone living on, or near, the water with line-of-sight to PYY will hear constant back up beepers during normal operation of a boatel.
