All too often people are considered to be outside of nature. We know that's not true: we are part of the natural world and our lives are deeply connected to it.

Enter AFC's photography contest and show us how you see people experiencing, interacting with, and belonging in nature. Whether you're drawn to reflective moments on the trail, moments of inter-species connection, or the complex entanglement of urban life and wild habitat, we want to see the relationships you capture.

The contest is free to enter and submissions close August 1st.
Visit qrcodes.pro/afc-npc to submit. And check out these inspiring entries from previous years' People in Nature category!

Across Los Angeles hillsides, the yellow and purple tufts of fountain grass is an all too familiar sight. What to the unassuming eye may be a beautiful, natural part of our landscape is actually an alarming threat.

But, at Sunshine Preserve, a targeted restoration effort transformed a fire-prone hillside into a mosaic of biodiversity. Sunshine's restoration case study shows how with care and commitment an ecological loss can evolve into long-term resilience.

Enjoy June's cool, gray mornings in the beautiful foothills! We hope to see you this month at a habitat restoration, Rosemont Preserve open gate, milkweed giveaway, or one of our community gatherings. We have fun opportunities for everyone to get connected to nature!

In addition to extra mid-week restoration opportunities, you can attend a summer solstice celebration at Sunshine. Plus, at the end of the month, our Urban Conservation Fellow Daniela is leading an event focused on connecting the BIPOC community through nature!

Visit our calendar more information about all these events. See you this month! https://arroyosfoothills.org/events/

What if the same project that protects wildlife in the foothills could help Los Angeles waste less water? Too often conservation is framed in opposition to infrastructure, but we don't see it that way. Our bioswale at Rosemont Preserve demonstrates why!

Read more about it on our blog: https://arroyosfoothills.org/restoration-case-study-stormwater-capture-at-rosemont-preserve/

Organizations and individuals seeking inexpensive ways to more sustainably capture stormwater can look to this project's success for inspiration.

Projects like this take years of planning, partnerships, hands-on preparation, and ongoing stewardship. A donation from you today ensures we can continue to protect habitat and make our region more resilient. Visit qrcodes.pro/afc-donate to support our work today.
