It was a great pleasure to be part of the working group led by Bishop Fernandes in the first Front Royal gathering. His leadership in Columbus is a model, alongside a growing number of diocesan teams in San Francisco, Portland, Orange, the Twin Cities, Los Angeles, and elsewhere, for this increasingly flowering Second Spring of Catholic education in America.

It was a great pleasure to participate in the inaugural Front Royal Education Summit at Christendom College, during which we finalized the Front Royal Statement: Seven Cardinal Principles of Catholic Elementary and Secondary Education.

The summit brought together educational leaders from across the country to articulate a shared vision for renewing Catholic education, addressing teacher formation, curriculum development, institutional culture & mission, and the integration of faith and reason.

Many thanks to Jon Kirwan, who convened the Summit, and to all who contributed to this important work. The Front Royal Statement is just the beginning, as we work to transform the already strong and accelerating Catholic educational renewal into a full-fledged movement.

“The spirit of the Pearson Program may be called Quixotic.
Don Quixote has been both ridiculed and admired because
he lived the chivalrous life when it was out of fashion.

“The three professors firmly believed that a true education
should engender ‘a birth of the human spirit, an entry into a
new world that excites interest because it is seen in the light
of wonder.’

“The lover of truth comes to be seen as the leader of a rival
faction hungry for monopoly, a dangerous revolutionary who
is out to overthrow the whole pluralistic establishment. There
can be but one solution: Socrates must die.”

From Truth on Trial by Robert K. Carlson
Foreword by Bishop James Conley D. Conley;
Introduction by Fr. Dcn. Kyle Washut
