This week Parma FFA has taken on Moscow FFA Career Development Events! We have so many photos to share, but we want to start off by highlighting our members and all the events they are competing in!

These teams work hard and developing career ready skills in different areas of agriculture! Over 1000 other FFA members are here and our students are proud of the work they’ve done. We get results Friday morning!

The team’s competing are

- Livestock Evaluation: judging classes of beef, sheep, and pigs, along with analyzing EPD‘s, and giving sets of oral reasons to describe why they placed the animals using industry terminology

- Potato Evaluation: placing classes of sea potatoes, identifying blemishes and disease diseases, and grading potatoes based off of USDA standards

- Agricultural Mechanics: student show off their skills in SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW welding process processes as well as tool ID

- Entomology: identifying insects based off of physical characteristics as well as the Genus and other characteristics. They also take a knowledge test.

- Milk Quality and Products: students take a knowledge test on the dairy industry, identify samples of cheese, identify real versus imitation dairy products, analyze milk for defects (think Napoleon Dynamite FFA scene), and analyze milk fat.

- Agronomy: students take a knowledge test, identify crop plants, pest, and weeds. Grade samples of seeds and hay and complete fertilizer calculations.

- Dairy Cattle Evaluation: students evaluate heifers and cows based off of industry standards as well as give sets of oral reasons and evaluate dairy herd records.

- Meat Technology: students identify cuts of meat from beef, sheep, and pigs, as well as great cuts of meat and carcasses for quality and yield grading.

- Nursery Landscape: students identify common landscape plants, native to our area, analyze, landscape, designs, and demonstrate skills in propagation, pruning, and repotting. They also took a knowledge test!

Tons of competitions and that’s not even all of them that we could compete in! if you’re professional or even a mild professional in any of these areas and are interested in helping me coach teams in the future, that would be so amazing!!! I want these students to have endless opportunities!

That’s all for now! Will update with more fun photos later 💙💛
