A MESSAGE FROM PARMA HEIGHTS MAYOR MARIE GALLO

Our community is heartbroken by the tragedy that occurred at Valley Forge High School. Our thoughts are with the student, her family and everyone affected during this incredibly painful and difficult time.

We want to commend our first responders from Parma Heights and Parma for their compassionate response, and we want our school district to know that Parma Heights stands alongside their leadership, staff and students in the wake of this tragedy as they work to support everyone affected.

We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support. Your phone calls, messages and check-ins have meant more than words can express. Thank you for keeping our community in your thoughts during this time of grief and sadness.

Like many of our neighboring departments, we have been taking advantage of the recent frigid weather to train on ice rescue operations. We are lucky to have several members of our department on the SERT Dive and Rope Rescue teams to teach us proper techniques. Remember - All bodies of water pose a serious hazard, no matter the size. Stay safe and stay off the ice!

Last night our newest member was sworn in as a part of the Parma Heights Fire Department. Josh had already made a name for himself within the department and community by attending department and PR events, and by showing a desire to serve in our community. We are excited to have you aboard Josh, congrats!

Operating out of a single station with a six-member minimum staffing per shift, our firefighters continue to deliver exceptional service to the citizens of Parma Heights.

On behalf of Local 1690, I want to express our deepest gratitude to the community for your trust and support. To the fellow firefighters, thank you for your dedication, professionalism, and sacrifice. Your hard work does not go unnoticed.

Parma Heights Fire Department Engine 6 on scene of a structure fire in the Lake Issac Reserve neighborhood of Middleburg Heights on a snowy evening. Firefighters from across the area would respond for a working house fire with first arriving crews rescuing one person from the flames.
