Testimony Tuesday
I grew to love EMMY in so many ways, but I’ll share just a few that have truly shaped me. As the youngest of three girls, I often stayed in the shadows, unsure of who I was or where I fit in. Ms. Knicole Mosby- Taylor always encouraged me to speak up and reminded me that it’s okay to have different perspectives. Through EMMY, I was pulled to the front—given the chance to speak in front of others, serve as a mentor, and find strength in using my voice.

One experience that stays with me is the 2010 camping trip. We rode horses (which I absolutely love), paddled in canoes, made tie-dye shirts, slept in cabins, and learned table etiquette. Before that, I’d never been in a canoe, and the only etiquette I knew was “no elbows on the table, chew with your mouth closed, and no singing during dinner.” That trip opened my eyes to so many new things.

Another favorite memory was our end-of-group fashion shows. Modeling has always been a part of me—my mom even tried getting me into agencies when I was around five. EMMY gave me the opportunity to be involved in every part of the fashion shows, which deepened my love and appreciation for the art.

Being a mentee with Empowering Minds of Maryland Youth helped build my confidence, introduced me to valuable new experiences, and nurtured my lifelong passion for modeling.

✨ ✨

We’re throwing it back to one of EMMY’s unforgettable Gala nights — where inspiration, talent, and purpose lit up the room! 💜🎤

Special shoutout to Bmore’s own Lil Key, who shared his heart and voice with our youth, showing them what it means to rise above and chase greatness.

And let’s not forget our very own founder, Mrs. Knicole Taylor, who continues to lead with passion and purpose — here pictured during a powerful moment with One More One Less Mentoring. Her commitment to our youth, especially our young men, reminds us daily why this work matters.

This moment was more than an event — it was a celebration of dreams, resilience, and community.

It originated in Southern traditions but has been adapted by various cultures around the world. It’s a significant event with rituals, presentations, and even a formal presentation of the debutantes to guests. It’s often seen as a rite of passage and an opportunity for young women to be formally recognized within their communities.

Fb family and friends,
If you all know me then you know that I absolutely love spotlighting others but I’m good with being in the background. But 2024 I’m going to celebrate when someone else wants to celebrate me too.
I’m Thankful and blessed that the Afro and Mrs Jannette choose to spotlight Empowering Minds of Maryland’s Youth (EMMY) , our board of directors, volunteers and myself!!! I am truly honored, humbled and thankful!!!!

It seems strange to do what was taught to me by my mom, Eunice Orange at a very young age. Now realize my love and passion for giving back.

Fredrick Douglas said it best “It’s easier to build strong children than to repair a broken man”
Together with EMMY and partners like Empowered To Stand HS Empowered To Stand Health Services, Persistenceistheway, Can’t Close my Eyes, Hug Don’t Shoot, Known As Monique Kam, Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation Cindy J Cosmetic Labs, LLC Inspiring Change and other organizations we can make a difference in our youth trajectory!!
