When someone you care about shares that they’re experiencing domestic violence, it can be hard to know what to say.

Sometimes, even well-intentioned words can make someone feel blamed, judged or alone. A little understanding can go a long way.

This month, we’re raising awareness, challenging misconceptions, and highlighting the many ways we can show up for survivors of domestic violence.

Because support matters. Believing someone matters. Listening without judgment matters. And creating safer paths forward matters.

Throughout October, we’ll be sharing information about domestic violence, ways to support someone experiencing abuse and resources for those who need them. We hope you’ll join us in building a community where survivors are believed, supported and never alone.

Synergy Services is deeply saddened by the passing of Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Zahnd. Eric was a passionate advocate for children and families in our community, dedicating his career to advancing justice and working to eliminate violence.

From his work with our Children’s Advocacy Center to create legislation that improved the admissibility of forensic interviews, to his collaboration with local agencies to strengthen systems of response to family violence, Eric’s impact on children and families throughout our community was profound.

His dedication, partnership and commitment to creating a safer community will be deeply missed. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Eric’s family, friends, colleagues and all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Ending domestic violence isn't accomplished through a single program or service, it takes every piece working together.

At Synergy Services, we support survivors with emergency shelter, housing, advocacy, therapy, and other critical services while also providing a statewide Offender Intervention Program focused on increasing accountability, reducing abusive behavior, and preventing future violence.

These approaches are not in competition. They are complementary. By helping survivors heal and addressing the behaviors that cause harm, we can work toward safer homes, stronger families, and healthier communities.

Every person deserves to live free from abuse. Every child deserves to grow up in a safe home. Together, we can help break the cycle of violence.
