This used to be the picture in front of my first Jiu Jitsu school. It was in West Hartford Connecticut and run by a blue belt. I was 19 i think. Some guy actually went out to California and trained with the Gracie’s before the world knew.

Royce would come every couple months to check our progress. I got to legit train with him twice and one of the most useful things he ever taught me was, fake left go right. He put it in football terms for me, then easily tapped me like a magician.

God bless Jim Hughes for starting that club and giving my broke tail a discount. I was poor in college and he made me pay like 30 a month.

What an amazing summer!
A huge thank-you to all the parents and kids who came out and made this summer’s Manners Have Jiu-Jitsu program such a success. I’m so proud of every single student for sticking with it through the whole 10-week program. Attendance was outstanding, the energy in every class was incredible, and the progress each of you made was inspiring to see.

We will definitely be back next summer for another full program! We’ve also got some other things in the works, and as soon as we know if we have access to the building, we’ll be reaching out to everyone with details.

To all the kids—your hard work, respect, and teamwork made this summer unforgettable. To the parents—thank you for your support and commitment. This was a special group, and I couldn’t be prouder.
