HELP NEEDED

The West Virginia Kids’ Foundation is currently seeking a suitable location in the Parkersburg area to begin providing evening meals for youth and families who are struggling during this time.

For the past two months, we have actively searched for a facility with a functional kitchen that is ready for use, but unfortunately we have not yet been successful. We have reached out to several potential options, including the former Fairplains Elementary School. Despite multiple phone calls and an in-person visit to the Board of Education office, we have not received a response.

If you are aware of a church, community center, unused school building, or other facility in or around Parkersburg that may be willing to partner with us or allow use of their kitchen space, we would be incredibly grateful to hear from you.

Please feel free to send us a direct message with any leads or suggestions. or by emailing us at [email protected]
Thank you for your continued support, and God bless.

In a perfect world, every child would grow up feeling safe, loved, and supported, with access to nutritious food, quality education, health care, and a stable home. When children’s basic needs are met, they have a far better chance at a healthy, stable, and successful future.

Sadly, this is not the reality for far too many children in the United States. Even in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, millions of children are struggling. This year, rising inflation and ongoing financial pressures have only made life harder for families who were already living on the edge.

Today, 1 in 7 children in the U.S. lives in poverty. According to the Children’s Defense Fund, a child is abused or neglected every 54 seconds. Beyond the devastating impact on children and families, the long-term cost of child maltreatment is staggering—one year of confirmed cases is estimated to cost $592 billion over those children’s lifetimes.

Some states do more than others to protect and support vulnerable children, but the need remains widespread. These realities should concern all of us. Every child deserves a safe, stable, and nurturing environment—and raising awareness is the first step toward meaningful change.

We are entering 2026 with excitement, purpose, and a renewed commitment to serve our youth and their families at an even higher level. This year represents growth, collaboration, and meaningful impact.

Our focus in the coming year is on strengthening relationships—both within our community and with fellow nonprofit organizations—because we know that when we work together, our reach and effectiveness are far greater.

In 2026, we will expand opportunities, resources, and guidance for youth and families facing challenges, Meals Beyond the Bell (When school is closed due to inclement weather we will provided any Wood County School Student with a hot breakfast and lunch), Mobile Food Bank, Back 2 School Supply Drive, Food Drive in different area of the county, Lucus’s Closet, and even more events to come.

Our team is more dedicated than ever to serving others with kindness, compassion, dignity, and respect in every interaction. These principles guide our work and shape the way we support those we serve each day.
We are incredibly thankful for everyone who continues to support and invest in our mission. We are excited for all that we will accomplish together in 2026.

As you spend time enjoying the holiday season, we kindly remind you that the needs of our community do not end when the celebration does. While decorations are being taken down and post holiday sales begin many families are still struggling to meet their most basic daily needs.

At WEST VIRGINIA Kids Foundation, the days falling a holiday are often some of the most challenging. Donations tend to slow, yet the demands of assistance remain consistent.

We are currently an urgent need of the following essential items:

-shampoo and conditioner
-body wash and bar soap
-toothpaste and toothbrushes
-laundry detergent
-dish soap
-all purpose cleaning supplies
-paper towel towels, and toilet paper

If you’re out shopping today, whether returning items or taking advantage of the clearance cells, please consider picking up an extra item or two. For many families, these everyday necessities represent dignity, relief, and one less difficult choice to make.

For drop off times and locations please contact our outreach Director at 681-292-1015 extension two or by emailing him at [email protected]

Thank you for continue to stand and support our neighbors in need.
