We're in the week of this event at Worthington Golf Club; the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame presents this documentary and we hope you will come out to get a dose of excitement and appreciation of the magic of music!!!!!

Hi Folks! While we don't exactly have live music for the MOV, we do have great music coming up!

In conjunction with the WV Music Hall of Fame we will be screening a wonderful musical concert/documentary from the 90s!

In April, 1993, Charleston’s venerable music venue, The Empty Glass, hosted a pair of shows that featured two of the finest musicians on the planet: Winston Walls and Steve Ferguson.
The tapes were discovered in a box some 30 years
later. The result is...
The Meteoric Weekend: Winston Walls meets Steve Ferguson

Walls, a Charleston native, was rightly dubbed “The Boss of the B3.” He was in a league of elite Hammond players that included Jack McDuff, Groove Holmes and the incomparable Jimmy Smith. He had traveled the country playing “Battle of the Organs” with players who set the highest bar for the instrument.

Guitarist Steve Ferguson, co-founder of the band NRBQ was perhaps the most original rock ‘n’ blues guitarist in the U.S. In the early '90s, he was rekindling and redefining his career. His playing was nothing short of incendiary and he had written some of his best and most focused songs to date.

Although they had never before met, Michael Lipton, then co-owner of The Empty Glass, reserved a weekend to feature his two favorite musicians. The set list consisted of Ferguson’s new crop of blues and soul tunes. Walls provided the perfect compliment - and then some. Fully grasping the importance of the meeting, noted filmmaker Jacob Young was enlisted to document the weekend.

The concert film and short interviews of Walls and Ferguson will be
screened at 7 p.m. February 23 at The Worthington Golf Club Ballroom. 3414 Roseland Ave., Parkersburg.

The film was completed with assistance from The West Virginia Humanities Council and The Glotfelty Foundation.

Yesterday I posted about seeing David Childers, a veteran of the MOV Americana Music Series on Mountain Stage on Sunday night, with his band The Serpents. After the show, David gave me two copies of his new CD. I of course, have listened to it yesterday, and enjoy it greatly. I don't know if any followers of the MOV Americana Music Series still listen to CD as I do, but if so, and you are a fan of David's music from his past visits to our Series, and would like this second copy of the CD, send me a message, and I'll arrange to get it to you!! By the way, David will be in Jackson Ohio on August 10th!!!

In recent months, I have been posted about shows I go to, where past MOV Americana Music Series performers are performing! Last night it was Mountain Stage, where David Childers and the Serpents did a set; featuring songs off their new CD "Melancholy Angel". Songs by David, except for several covers; Prince! John Prine, Jon Byrd, and Max Johnston. Jon Byrd was also on the show last night. It was great to say hello to David After the show, and convey greetings from the MOV fans; from his several shows in our series.

I posted several posts about recent shows by Adam and Chris Carroll here. Today I got a 5 song "EP" of Part I of Owen Temple's new forthcoming CD (full CD out in September). He has posted a few videos so far. A nice note accompanied the CD- saying he has good memories of his visits to Parkersburg and hanging out with us. He's another favorite of mine!!!

I posted recent shows I enjoyed within a circle radius (of 2 hours) by past Performers at the MOV Americana Music Series. All three, Tommy Womack, Jason Wilber, and Adam and Chris Carroll, enthusiastically sent their greetings to friends of MOV Americana Music Series when I said hello! They had fond memories of their shows with you! Now I am looking ahead to June, and two more opportunities to see "veterans" of MOV Americana Music Series! On June 18th I will see David Childers on Mountain Stage in Charleston. David will be with the Serpents that night. Some may recall David's last visit to MOV, when he performed on the sternwheeler boat as part of the Circles Campaign fundraiser Ohio River cruise!! David had a few shows in downtown Parkersburg over the years, too. And Friday, June 23rd I will be seeing Kevin Gordon (Trio) in Columbus at Natalie's (Charlie's Stage). Kevin has been a great performer a number of times in Parkersburg; solo and with a band. I will be bringing out CD's of these two over the next weeks to prime the pump of their great music, and look forward to what new music they have.

Finished my "week of Adam and Chris Carroll" with their radio broadcast from wfmt's "Folk Stage" from Chicago; where they sang some songs and gave some stories behind the songs for a live audience and radio show that has been going on for quite a while. Ended up with "Bernadine." Nice!
