We're in the week of this event at Worthington Golf Club; the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame presents this documentary and we hope you will come out to get a dose of excitement and appreciation of the magic of music!!!!!
Hi Folks! While we don't exactly have live music for the MOV, we do have great music coming up!
In conjunction with the WV Music Hall of Fame we will be screening a wonderful musical concert/documentary from the 90s!
In April, 1993, Charleston’s venerable music venue, The Empty Glass, hosted a pair of shows that featured two of the finest musicians on the planet: Winston Walls and Steve Ferguson.
The tapes were discovered in a box some 30 years
later. The result is...
The Meteoric Weekend: Winston Walls meets Steve Ferguson
Walls, a Charleston native, was rightly dubbed “The Boss of the B3.” He was in a league of elite Hammond players that included Jack McDuff, Groove Holmes and the incomparable Jimmy Smith. He had traveled the country playing “Battle of the Organs” with players who set the highest bar for the instrument.
Guitarist Steve Ferguson, co-founder of the band NRBQ was perhaps the most original rock ‘n’ blues guitarist in the U.S. In the early '90s, he was rekindling and redefining his career. His playing was nothing short of incendiary and he had written some of his best and most focused songs to date.
Although they had never before met, Michael Lipton, then co-owner of The Empty Glass, reserved a weekend to feature his two favorite musicians. The set list consisted of Ferguson’s new crop of blues and soul tunes. Walls provided the perfect compliment - and then some. Fully grasping the importance of the meeting, noted filmmaker Jacob Young was enlisted to document the weekend.
The concert film and short interviews of Walls and Ferguson will be
screened at 7 p.m. February 23 at The Worthington Golf Club Ballroom. 3414 Roseland Ave., Parkersburg.
The film was completed with assistance from The West Virginia Humanities Council and The Glotfelty Foundation.
