Parkersburg/Wood County Neighborhood Watch

Parkersburg/Wood County Neighborhood Watch This is the official page for the Parkersburg / Wood County Neighborhood Watch Co-Op. These areas are sub-divided into sub-ZIP code sized areas.

This is the official page of the Parkersburg and Wood County (West Virginia) Neighborhood Watch Co-op. Our organization is chartered by the Parkersburg Police Department and Wood County Sheriff’s Office to organize and coordinate the activities of all the Neighborhood Watch Groups in Parkersburg and the surrounding unincorporated areas of Wood County. While at the present time there are a

few local groups and some individuals who claim to be Neighborhood Watch (or walking patrol or something similar), only the chartered members of the Co-op are recognized by local law enforcement. The Neighborhood Watch Co-op (NHWC) is a small group of citizens dedicated to the control, management, maintenance, and most importantly, the implementation of and the transition to the concept of Community-Oriented policing in the city of Parkersburg. The organization of the committee is based on the geographic distribution of all of the approximately seventy neighborhood watches in the city. The geographic boundaries are determined by the postal ZIP Code regions of the city. There are more Neighborhood Watch groups in some ZIP Code areas than others, primarily because of the size of the land mass, and secondly because of citizen interest. The NHWC President is the guiding force of the NHWC. This individual works almost daily with the Parkersburg Police Department to understand, relate, and communicate the focus, direction, needs, and desires of the entire city-wide community to the police department in order to complement the partnership between the police and the citizens. In addition, the president must direct monthly committee meetings, appoint sub-committees to address specific problems and concerns, and generally exhibit administrative characteristics that command respect and direct the orderly fashion of business as it is required. A Neighborhood Watch is a group of concerned citizens in a small geographic region of a community who are organized, committed, informed, and structured in a hierarchy of blockwatcher, zone or block captains, and a watch coordinator. I just received a notice from the Farce Book "fact checkers" (censors) that my account (which has already had access from my computer blocked) is in danger of being blocked for posting "misinformation" they judged to be false. When I checked the actual posts they blocked, I determined they were clearly identified as "SATIRE" which PROVES they are censors and NOT "fact checkers" because the whole point of satire is to say that something false is true for its humor value!

I have had it with FARCEbook and will soon be deleting my account (which I can only access from my phone anyway)!

Our January 11 Neighborhood Watch Meeting Is Critical

As previously noted, in July 2022, we were advised that the Parkersburg Police Department wants only active Watch Groups to be included in their Neighborhood Watch program, and we have been instructed to remove inactive Watch Groups from the roster. For the past 20 months, we have been trying hard to encourage those currently on the roster to be more active and have not had much luck. Accordingly, the January meeting will be the deciding factor.

Watch Captains, if either you or your Co-Captain cannot be present at that meeting and you want your Group to be considered “active,” please be sure to send at least one designated representative to this meeting. Any Watch Group that does not have at least one designated representative present at the January meeting will be considered “inactive” and will be removed from the roster.

Please Note: This will not affect any Watch Group that has had at least one member attend any of the past three meetings. Those Groups have already been marked as active.

Our special guest for this meeting will be Don Lindsey, candidate for magistrate in the 2024 election. He will be speaking to us about his plans and ideas if he wins the position. Don is currently the Homeless Coordinator for the Parkersburg Police Department and president of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 79.

This meeting will be at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 11th, in the Parkersburg Council Chambers, on the second floor of the City Building, 1 Government Square. Please enter through the back door. We are allowed to park in the City Building’s rear parking lot.
