Grantmaking is a primary means by which the Sisters Health Foundation advances its mission by partnering with agencies and organizations to address significant health issues. Through our grantmaking, we seek to support projects and strategies that will advance oral health, healthy lifestyles, or health equity in the Mid-Ohio Valley. The Sisters Health Foundation has two major grant programs, the R

esponsive Grant Program and the Basic Needs/Direct Service Grants Program. We support tax-exempt nonprofits that will positively impact residents in one or more counties of our service area:
WV: Calhoun, Jackson, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Tyler, Wirt, Wood
OH: Ohio: Athens, Meigs, Washington

In our recent trip to Calhoun County, we visited the Middle and High Schools and were awed by the community of changemakers they are co-creating. It was a treat to tour the schools, learn more about the clothing closet (and other personal items) for students and to meet their therapy dog, Coco! We also had the pleasure of visiting the Calhoun County Committee on Aging and catching up with the Calhoun County FRN. Thank you for your hospitality and sharing with us all of the good work you do for your community!

WV's nonprofit workforce keeps things churning without many of us knowing. These nonprofit workers show up early, work late hours, and stretch their dollars to continue supporting their communities. West Virginia Nonprofit Association - WVNPA is collecting stories from the often-invisible nonprofit workers, those doing the ground work, for a project called Work Ethic. To participate and learn how to create and upload your story as a nonprofit worker, check out the flyer on this post.

Through Work Ethic, you’ll hear directly from those who are willing to take home a little less if it means easing suffering or offering a measure of hope. This project invites you to see what it truly takes—and what it costs—to make this work a life’s mission. And what could happen if it disappeared. Here is a reel from West Virginia Nonprofit Association - WVNPAWest Virginia Nonprofit Association - WVNPA to get a feel for how you can share your story: https://www.facebook.com/reel/686302987900948

Last year, SHF provided support for Fort Frye Local Schools' greenhouse project for their Agricultural Learning Center. With this greenhouse, their students enrolled in the agricultural education program have the opportunity to learn about growing and selling products. During the school year, students took part in a supervised agriculture experiential program in which they learned outside the classroom called work-based learning. The program's partnership with Mid-Ohio Food Collective also gave students the chance to learn about hydroponics, food deserts, food waste and food insecurity in the region. Thank you, Fort Frye Local Schools, for establishing the Agricultural Learning Center and providing a space for the future generation to learn more about growing food for the community and food systems.
