Chicago is remembering Pete Kastanes, a proud Greek-American and creator of Vanished Chicagoland, who died at 62 after battling cancer. An Oak Lawn native and DeVry graduate, he worked at American Express Travel before devoting himself to sharing Chicago’s forgotten history through his site, posts, and podcasts. Last year, the Chicago History Museum honored him with its Citizen Historian Award for his dedication to bringing the city’s past to life.

The Chicago community came together to celebrate the life and contributions of Pete Kastanes, a modern historian and founder of the popular website Vanished Chicagoland, who passed away at the age …

With broken hearts, the Greek-American community of Chicago mourns the devastating loss of one of our own. At only 38
years old, John Bartholomew was a dedicated 10-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department who gave his life protecting the streets we call home.

Officer Bartholomew, who ran toward danger so that we could live in safety showed the true meaning of courage, honor, and sacrifice—values deeply rooted in our heritage and carried
through generations. John leaves behind a loving wife and children who will grow up knowing their father was a hero. Our souls ache for his family — we pray that God surrounds them with strength, comfort, and unwavering love during this unimaginable time.

We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in blue, praying fervently for John's injured partner’s full recovery. We honor those who protect and serve with the same respect we give our own. John is now among the angels, watching over us all.

We are proud. We are grateful. We stand with you always. We will never forget. Αιωνία η μνήμη σου, Γιάννη.

ENOSIS is delighted to have partnered with Greek Lessons 4 All, the Consulate General of Greece in Chicago, @Μουσείο Καποδίστρια - Capodistrias Museum, and the Pickwick Theatre to present a unique museum exhibit featuring letters and treasured heirlooms of Kapodistrias. The event also included an insightful conversation between Zoe Gavrilidou and Antonis Miriagos, who brought Capodistrias to life on screen. Special thanks to Ms. Maya Charalampopoulou, Director of the Capodistrias Museum, for sharing the personal side of Capodistrias through his letters and enriching the experience for all attendees.

On Sunday afternoon, moments before the first steps of the parade, as our pride and joy, The Evzones, stepped onto Halsted, the cloudy skies parted and the sun shown down on an absolutely beautiful day of unity and pride for the Greek community. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for coming to celebrate together the 205 years from the start of the Greek Revolution of 1821!

We will be sharing the complete album by .photography on our website as soon as the full set has been edited by Mr. Sotirako.

Thank you all! Friends, families, honored guests from overseas and across the country, and the fantastic Εύζωνες, the Pride and Joy of Greece… Ζήτω η Ελλάς! Ζήτω το Έθνος!
