Heartfelt congratulations to Greektown SSA #16 on presenting a truly distinguished event that brought 40 original works of art to life throughout Greektown Chicago in honor of the United States’ 250th Anniversary, the Semiquincentennial. Special recognition is extended to Commissioner Eve Moran and Director Tia Angelos for their exemplary leadership, vision, and dedication in bringing this meaningful celebration to fruition. The speakers eloquently reflected on the profound influence of Greek history upon the Founding Fathers, as well as the enduring capacity of art to inspire, unite, and uplift communities.
Sincere commendation is also due to the Greektown Education Fund for its meaningful collaboration with the Greektown SSA and its partnership with local Greek language schools, whose collective efforts helped bring this inspiring initiative to life. ENOSIS extends its deepest gratitude to the Greektown SSA for the gracious invitation; it was an honor to experience such artistic brilliance and cultural pride.

From the earliest days of the United States to the present, Greeks have stood in steadfast friendship and shared purpose with this nation. The line “to the shores of Tripoli” in the U.S. Marines’ Hymn recalls the First Barbary War (1801–1805), during which many Greek soldiers fought alongside Americans with courage and distinction.
In the years that followed, Greek Americans continued this proud tradition of service in the U.S. Armed Forces. As immigration increased in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, many immigrants and their descendants enlisted or were called to serve. From the Civil War to the World Wars, Korea, and the present day, Greeks and Americans of Hellenic descent have served the United States with honor, loyalty, and distinction.
ENOSIS offers its heartfelt commendation to all who have served these great United States. Your dedication is a source of pride and an example to us all. ENOSIS extends special congratulations to Bill Gritsonis, Commander of Hellenic Post #343, whose leadership over the past twenty years has been exemplary. Having served in the Special Forces, and in his role as Commander, Mr. Gritsonis has rendered distinguished service, including his devoted organization of the annual Memorial Day Trisagion and Wreath-Laying Ceremony.
ENOSIS is deeply grateful for the invitation and honored to take part in this meaningful ceremony honoring our heroes.

St. George Greek Orthodox Church invites the community to its Annual Memorial Service honoring the brave men and women who have sacrificed in service to our nation and our communities.

This special service will remember and honor fallen police officers, veterans, firefighters, EMS personnel, and all first responders whose courage and dedication will never be forgotten.

Join in prayer and remembrance as we pay tribute to those who gave of themselves in service to others.

Η Ομοσπονδία Ελληνοαμερικανικών Οργανώσεων Ιλλινόις «Η ΕΝΩΣΗ» είχε την τιμή να παρευρεθεί και να στηρίξει την ιδιαίτερα συγκινητική εκδήλωση μνήμης για την επέτειο της Ποντιακής Γενοκτονίας, που διοργάνωσαν τα Ελληνικά Εκπαιδευτήρια «ΑΘΗΝΑ», μαζί με συνεργαζόμενους φορείς της Ομογένειας μας.

Ιδιαίτερη τιμή αποτέλεσε η ομιλία του Θεοφάνη Μαλκίδη, διδάκτορα του Παντείου Πανεπιστημίου και μέλους της Διεθνούς Ένωσης Ακαδημαϊκών για τη Μελέτη των Γενοκτονιών, ο οποίος με βαθιά γνώση και συγκίνηση ανέδειξε τη σημασία της ιστορικής μνήμης, της αλήθειας και της διεθνούς αναγνώρισης της Ποντιακής Γενοκτονίας.

Με σεβασμό και βαθιά συγκίνηση τιμήσαμε τη μνήμη των θυμάτων του Ποντιακού Ελληνισμού και στείλαμε το διαχρονικό μήνυμα πως η ιστορική μνήμη δεν σβήνει ποτέ. Η διατήρηση της αλήθειας και η μεταλαμπάδευσή της στις νεότερες γενιές αποτελεί ιερό καθήκον όλων μας.

Θερμά συγχαρητήρια στους διοργανωτές, στους μαθητές, στους εκπαιδευτικούς, στους καλλιτέχνες και σε όλους όσοι συνέβαλαν σε αυτή τη σπουδαία βραδιά μνήμης, πολιτισμού και ιστορικής συνείδησης.

Η ΕΝΩΣΗ θα συνεχίσει να στηρίζει κάθε προσπάθεια που διαφυλάσσει την ιστορία, την ταυτότητα και την πολιτιστική κληρονομιά του Ελληνισμού.

Ο Sam A. Sianis, 91 ετών, από το Park Ridge, έφυγε ειρηνικά από τη ζωή στις 15 Μαΐου 2026, περιστοιχισμένος από την αγαπημένη του οικογένεια. Ο κ. Σιάνης ενσάρκωνε το αληθινό ήθος της εργασίας και αποτέλεσε φωτεινό παράδειγμα του τι μπορεί να πετύχει ένας μετανάστης με πίστη, επιμονή και αξιοπρέπεια. Έχασε τη μητέρα του από νεογέννητο, όμως δεν λύγισε ποτέ μπροστά στις δυσκολίες της ζωής. Είχε κάθε λόγο και κάθε ευκαιρία να «διπλώσει την ποδιά», όμως δεν το έκανε ποτέ. Συνέχισε να εργάζεται ακούραστα όχι για προσωπικό όφελος, αλλά γιατί αισθανόταν υπηρέτης των ανθρώπων γύρω του και της κοινότητάς του. Επέλεξε να συνεχίσει να αγωνίζεται με δύναμη ψυχής, προσφέροντας πάντοτε στους άλλους. Αυτή είναι η πραγματική λεβεντιά. Αυτή είναι η αληθινή αρχοντιά.

Η ζωή του χαρακτηρίστηκε από ταπεινότητα, αφοσίωση και βαθιά αγάπη για την οικογένεια και την κοινότητά του. Ως επί χρόνια ιδιοκτήτης της εμβληματικής Billy Goat Tavern, έγινε θρύλος του Σικάγο και σύμβολο της ελληνοαμερικανικής επιτυχίας. Με την ακούραστη εργατικότητά του, το χαμόγελο και τη γνήσια φιλοξενία του, χάρισε χαρά σε αμέτρητους ανθρώπους, ενώ το διάσημο «Cheezborger» έγινε γνωστό σε ολόκληρη την Αμερική.

Παράλληλα, δεν ξέχασε ποτέ την ελληνική του καταγωγή και στήριζε διαχρονικά την ομογένεια, βοηθώντας πάντοτε την Παναρκαδική Ομοσπονδία Αμερικής σε κάθε έρανο και φιλανθρωπική προσπάθεια, με γενναιοδωρία και ανιδιοτέλεια.

Υπήρξε επίσης παθιασμένος φίλαθλος των Cubs και το όνομά του συνδέθηκε ανεξίτηλα με την περίφημη «κατάρα της κατσίκας», αποτελώντας αναπόσπαστο κομμάτι της ιστορίας και της λαογραφίας του Σικάγο.
