The number one piece of feedback we get from these kinds of things is, ā€œI wish I’d done this sooner.ā€

BRASS recently provided an AIARE Level 1 avalanche safety course in partnership with Red River Adventures.

Twelve athletes from US Ski & Snowboard spent three days of learning and traveling through the mountains 🤘

was a great partner in facilitating access to this (special shoutout to Michele Lowry at USSS who connected us with all the athletes and staff to create the opportunity.)

With these warm temps across the western US, slides are possible—pay attention to these signs!

Dear BRASS community,

Our hearts ache for the families and loved ones of those who were involved in the Tahoe avalanche.

We are thinking of the wives and mothers who lost their lives. They are also daughters, sisters, aunts, cousins, and friends.

We are thinking of the guides. Each of them is someone’s son, daughter, sibling, or friend.

And we are thinking of those who survived, who will carry this trauma, in some way, for the rest of their lives.

This accident is an unspeakable tragedy.

As we learn the names of the people involved, you will find, as I have, that you are more closely connected to them than you think. You’ll have met them before, or you’ll know their spouses, or their kids. You’ll have shared a chairlift ride, a table in the lodge, or a conversation at the scoreboard. They are ski families.

The beauty of skiing is the people we get to meet along the way. In times like this, it is this intertwined community that comes together as the safety net for those grieving. Let’s do that together.

At some point, an accident report will be written, and then we will read, think and learn. In the meantime, we will not speculate about what happened. Instead, we will hold the victims, their families, and their communities in our hearts.

The BRASS mission feels more important than ever. But right now, the loss is overwhelming. To all of our people who love the winter mountains, and especially our friends nearest to this: we love you and we’re here for you.

Sincerely,
Sam Damon
Executive Director

One of our biggest BRASS 101s ever 🫔

Roughly 120 Snowbird alpine and free ride team athletes ages 9-18 got familiar with:
- The avalanche recipe and triggers
- Terrain identification, including examples in their backyard
- Beacon, probe and shovel work

A huge thank you to Craig Gordon and Chad Brackelsberg from Utah Avalanche Center, Anna Marno from BRASS, and a handful of ski patrollers from Snowbird šŸ™Œ

Today we remember two bright lights that were taken too soon.

The BRASS Foundation, which stands for Bryce & Ronnie Athlete Snow Safety, was founded after the tragic avalanche accident of Jan 5th, 2015, to ensure that as many young skiers as possible could be empowered by the knowledge to keep themselves safe off-piste.

It’s been a productive 2025 for BRASS šŸ“ˆ

In just the past 3 months, we’ve educated skiers with our BRASS 101 curriculum at Stratton, Burke, Dartmouth, Big Sky, NYSEF, Franconia, Pico, Bogus Basin, Smuggler’s Notch, Holimont, Cooper Spur, Vail, Sugarbowl, Steamboat, Proctor, and Gould. Every session was provided for free.

Thanks for your continued support! There are still many young skiers to educate in 2026 and beyond!

We challenge you to send this to at least one person šŸ™

Any donation, no matter how small, will get us closer to our December goal of $50,000–which will be matched—AND unlock a second $50,000 matching challenge.
