Youth Sports Alliance

Youth Sports Alliance The Youth Sports Alliance (YSA) was founded in 2002 to increase youth sports participation by leveraging area facilities built for the Olympics.

Utah-based Youth Sports Alliance boosts sports participation using Olympic facilities and offers nationally-recognized afterschool programs introducing kids to sports and screen-free activities, alongside leading fundraising for local winter sport teams. Our nationally-recognized afterschool programs introduce kids to sports and screen-free activities. Also, we lead fundraising efforts for seven l

ocal winter sport teams. Each year, we engage more than 3,500 young people in Summit and Wasatch Counties.

🚵‍♀️ That’s a wrap on mountain biking—and with it, another incredible year of Get Out & Play!

This final Park City school-year program capped off a season of adventure, new friends and learning new skills for thousands of students across Northern Utah. From first-time experiences to new favorite sports, Get Out & Play helps kids build confidence, stay active, and discover the joy of trying something new.

We still have a few opportunities for tweens and teens this summer, but otherwise, we’ll see you in August for another year of afterschool fun!

The Youth Sports Alliance joined the National Ability Center and SOS Outreach in supporting proposed chairlift upgrades at Park City Mountain. Together, our organizations helped provide more than 10,000 on-mountain experiences for youth and adaptive athletes this winter, and improved access and infrastructure will help continue creating opportunities for local students and athletes for years to come.

"These projects would replace aging chairlifts that are critical connections to beginner, intermediate, and adaptive learning terrain already heavily used by local students, families, and athletes."

Congratulation to Brynn Petersen on winning the Youth Sports Alliance Stein Eriksen High School Merit Scholarship. This is the first year that YSA has given a merit scholarship to a Wasatch High graduating senior.

Brynn has balanced academics, athletics, work, volunteer service, and professional certifications — all while building confidence in the next generation of kids on and off the ice. Through figure skating, teaching, and mentoring young athletes, Brynn discovered a passion for helping children feel supported, capable, and seen. That passion is now guiding her toward the University of Utah, where she plans to pursue a degree in elementary education.

The $3,000 Youth Sports Alliance Stein Eriksen High School Merit Scholarship supports graduating seniors as they pursue higher education. The scholarship is awarded to student-athletes from YSA member teams who have demonstrated excellence in academics, commitment to sport, and leadership in their communities. YSA awards one scholarship to a student at Park City High School, Wasatch High School, and Winter Sports School each graduation season.

Congratulations, Brynn! We can’t wait to see the impact you’ll continue to make in your community and beyond. 💙⛸️📚 ._.petersen

Ahoy matey! ⛵️🌊 Today, a dozen students from the Wasatch County School District set sail with the Youth Sports Alliance’s ACTiV8 afterschool program at Jordanelle Reservoir.

Instructed by Park City Sailing, these students learned sailing basics, built confidence on the water, and spent the afternoon staying active while trying something new outside the classroom. 🙌

What a night celebrating the incredible athletes, coaches, volunteers, and community members who make youth sports so special!

The Youth Sports Alliance Circle of Excellence Awards brought together athletes from across our winter sport community to celebrate achievement, leadership, perseverance, and character — both on and off the snow.

🏆 Major award winners included:
✨ Spirit of Service Award — Amy Macuga
✨ Hall of Fame Inductees — Stephen Schumann & Jana Johnson
✨ Leadership Award — Awstyn Knight
✨ Breakthrough Performance of the Year — Maddie & Mat Penafiel
✨ Sam Jackenthal Show Stopper Award — Mason Schwarzenbach

We also celebrated our Champion and All-Star athletes, along with Get Out & Play and ACTiV8 students who demonstrated outstanding core values, leadership, and commitment throughout the year.

A huge THANK YOU to our coaches, parents, volunteers, partner clubs, and sponsors — Mountain Flow, Ritual Chocolate, Kodiak, Scott, and the Stein Eriksen YSA Opportunity Endowment — for helping local kids chase big dreams through sport. 🙌

Athletes are already on their phones — at the Youth Sports Alliance’s Power of Play event, we explored how to turn that screen time into storytelling for clubs and teams.

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for The Brand Ambassador Blueprint: Turning Athletes into Your Club’s Best Marketing Asset! We had a great conversation about visual storytelling, building club identity, and empowering athletes to become ambassadors for their teams and communities.

A special thank you to Dan Macuga of DM Executive Consulting and Jay Burke, Director of Marketing at Woodward, for sharing their expertise with the 30 coaches and program staff who attended!

Power of Play is YSA’s quarterly educational series designed to raise the bar for Wasatch Back sports organizations and youth programs through collaboration, professional development, and shared ideas.

Game on 🎾

Get Out & Play students from Jeremy Ranch Elementary and Parley’s Park Elementary hit the courts at the National Ability Center to learn pickleball—and build confidence, skills, and community along the way.

We’re proud to partner with the National Ability Center throughout the school year, including winter programs where students of all abilities can learn to ski side-by-side with their classmates.
