EMERGENCY: The Lees Ferry Trout Fishery is at Risk—And We Need Your Voice!

For over 60 years, the cold, clear waters below Glen Canyon Dam have sustained one of America’s absolute best wild trout fisheries. But right now, dropping water levels are causing river temperatures to skyrocket. Without immediate intervention, our wild rainbow and brown trout face massive mortality risks, threatening both the ecosystem and our local guiding community.

Volunteers needed!

In September 2024, the High Uintas experienced a devastating wildfire (Yellow Lake Fire) that burned 33,000 acres of National Forest in the upper Provo River Drainage and in the upper Duchesne River Drainage.

This past Summer, 2025, High Country Fly Fishers submitted a request for a grant to the Trout Unlimited Embrace-A-Stream program for restoration monies slated for remedial restorative work in the Soapstone Creek Area (headwaters to the North Fork of the Provo River) between the Mirror Lake Highway and the Wolf Creek Pass Highway.

The purpose of the work is to prevent debris and ash from entering the headwaters of the Provo River. Our grant submission was accepted and we are now seeking 200 volunteers to help with hands-on restoration of one and a half miles of stream. Volunteers will spread over project dates August 8, 12, 14, and 15.
