Mountain Towns 2030 Executive Director Chris Steinkamp will be moderating a panel at this year’s Sun Valley Forum, a blueprint for innovation, investment, and impact. Join us there!

The panel will explore climate resiliency: The Wood River Valley stands out as one of the strongest examples of cross-community collaboration in action. What’s notable isn’t just ambition, but alignment. Local governments, regional partners, nonprofits, and the resort community are working from a shared vision and coordinating around ex*****on. That level of alignment allows the valley to move faster, deploy resources more effectively, and tackle challenges at the scale they actually exist.

After an historically low snowpack winter, wildfire awareness is at the forefront of conversations across every mountain community.

Join Mountain Towns 2030, Tahoe Fund and Fire Aside for a three-part webinar series exploring the strategies, technologies, and partnerships helping mountain towns build resilience and prepare for an increasingly fire-prone future.

We’re bringing together first responders, technology leaders, community practitioners, utility leaders, resort operators, and resilience experts to help highlight practical strategies to reduce wildfire risk, strengthen preparedness, and accelerate action across mountain regions.

After a climate-fueled dry winter across the West, the growing threat of wildfire has become a stark reality for mountain communities and ski resorts. This conversation brings together leading experts and practitioners at the forefront of wildfire resilience to share strategies, solutions, and practical insights for preparing and building more climate- and wildfire-resilient communities. Featuring panelists Hilary Franz, Zach Knight, and Amy Berry.

At the conference, MT2030’s moderated a candid conversation with ski industry leaders on what a low-snow season really means—and where we go from here.

Kevin Lenau (Backcountry), Sophie Goldschmidt, Raj Basi, and Brad Chedister didn’t sugarcoat it: declining snow is already impacting revenue, increasing costs, and reshaping the future of the sport.

But alongside the urgency, there was clarity:
— Innovation in materials and technology is accelerating
— Consumer demand for sustainability is rising
— And the ski industry has a unique platform to drive awareness and action

As Goldschmidt put it: “We can take the profile of this issue to a whole new level.”

The question now isn’t whether change is coming—it’s how fast we act, and how well we work together.

Join us to tomorrow at 11am MT (link in bio) to learn how innovative public-private partnerships, and emerging carbon markets can help fund fuels reduction projects, accelerate forest restoration, and build long-term climate resilience.

As wildfire seasons grow longer and more destructive, mountain and rural communities are searching for scalable, cost-effective solutions. This webinar explores how biochar can turn hazardous forest fuels into a climate solution reducing wildfire risk, sequestering carbon, and creating new economic opportunities.

At the Mountain Towns 2030 Climate Summit, experts explored how geothermal energy could help communities reduce emissions, stabilize energy costs, and build long-term resilience.

Unlike traditional systems, geothermal taps the earth’s stable underground temperature to heat and cool buildings—even during cold mountain winters.

Panelists included:
• Luke Cartin, Park City Municipal
• Alexandra Iseman, D.A. Davidson
• Bryce Carter, Colorado Energy Office
• Matt Garlick, Grey Edge Group

As more pilot projects emerge across the West, geothermal is quickly becoming a key climate solution for mountain communities.

What mountain town has shaped you? Maybe it’s where you learned to ski, found your community, built a career, or simply fell in love with the mountains. These places give us so much and right now, they need our support.

Across the West, we’re seeing inconsistent snowpack and growing climate challenges that affect far more than recreation. Climate change touches drinking water, wildlife, air quality, working families, and the local economies that keep mountain towns alive year-round.

At Mountain Towns 2030, we bring together city and county leaders, ski resorts, businesses, and nonprofits to move beyond talk and toward systemic, high-impact climate solutions. We’ve built a collaborative platform where communities can learn from one another, align around shared goals, and take action that simply wouldn’t be possible alone.

This holiday season, please stand up for a mountain town you love and make a year-end gift in honor of the place that shaped you. Every contribution, at any level, goes directly towards accelerating solutions that build the healthy, climate-resilient mountain communities that we all care so deeply about.
