🇺🇸 50 Years Later… A Look Back and a Look Ahead 🇺🇸

These photos take us back to July 1976, when members of the Paris Rotary Club came together during America’s Bicentennial celebration to bury a time capsule filled with memories, hopes, and pieces of local history for future generations.

Now, nearly 50 years later, that capsule is being opened, giving us a rare glimpse into what life in Paris looked like during one of our nation’s most memorable milestones.

As we celebrate America’s 250th Birthday in 2026, the Paris Rotary Club is creating history once again. On July 4, 2026, a new time capsule will be buried, preserving stories, photographs, keepsakes, and memories for future generations to discover.

What would you want your grandchildren—or even great-grandchildren—to know about life in 2026?

This is more than a community project. It’s an opportunity to leave a piece of your family’s story behind and become part of Paris history.

📸 Enjoy these photos from 1976 and imagine the excitement they felt as they prepared a message for the future.

🇺🇸 We encourage everyone to be part of this special once-in-a-generation project. Contact your local Rotarian for information about contributing items to the new time capsule and make plans to join us at the Logan County Courthouse on July 4, 2026, as we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary and preserve our community’s legacy for generations to come.

Paris Area Chamber of Commerce staff members Tonya Fletcher and Jennifer Harris recently attended the Western Arkansas Planning and Development District Board meeting at Peak Innovation Center in Fort Smith.

During the meeting, they had the opportunity to meet with representatives from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission to discuss local and regional issues impacting our communities. These conversations help identify new opportunities for economic growth, workforce development, and community improvement.

The Chamber remains committed to building strong partnerships and seeking innovative solutions that will help create a stronger, more vibrant future for our community.
