Congratulations to Berea College on this major win against eminent domain!

A judge today ruled in favor of Berea College, striking down an eminent domain lawsuit brought by East Kentucky Power Cooperative (EKPC) that would have allowed the company to seize a portion of the Berea College Forest to construct a high-voltage electric transmission line.

Did you know that 40+ different types of government entities have eminent domain power in Kentucky?

This quote perfectly sums up how government feels about taking private property: "Land is pretty scarce here in this community, as you very well know, and we're running out of pieces of property for schools in particular because it requires such a large footprint.”

As construction continues at the site of the new Rise STEM Academy for Girls, an eminent domain fight is intensifying between Lexington homeowners and Fayette County Public Schools.
