Update:
As of now, you can drop off items at HRC, 753 E. Court St behind the hospital and Paris Eagles on W. Court St. Reminder, this is not for a holiday meal. This is just for everyday food. Peanut butter, bread, jelly, canned soup, etc. Anything and everything will help. "Fed is best"...we'll take anything ya got! 😎
Riders and friends of Bikers for Abilities....I hope this post finds you well.
I am posting today for a very somber reason.
As you know, we ride and come together for the betterment of individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
B4A needs your help again. With the government shutdown, many of our individuals are facing a serious food insecurity from not receiving their snap benefits.
Yes, many do work at HRC in our laundry and janitorial services. But that is just a few hours a day, or couple of days.
Some of the individuals live on their own, some with their families, often elderly parents who just cannot supplement this type of shortage.
With the individuals developmental and intellectual disabilities, they cannot just simplt "figure it out". They need our help.
Bikers for Abilities is working to put a "shelf-stable" food drive together. We will post some drop off locations, as well as a date for an in-person food drive location as soon as I can get a parking lot to use. Hopefully along Jasper Street, to make it easily accessible. In the meantime, keep us in mind, and feel free to reach out if you'd like to donate. We can arrange pick up also. Our goal is canned meat, veggies and boxed food to assure we can store it while we get it dispersed over the next month.
**Should the government open in the next month (unlikely), we will pay any food not needed for our individuals forward to local fiod banks, blessing boxes and the Community Nurse's Christmas Basket drive.**
