The Harry D Jerred Sons of The American Legion will be having a Euchre Tournament at the Upper Crust (109 N Main Street, Pardeeville) on Saturday, November 4, beginning at 3PM. $10/person. Registration begins at 2:30. Food and beverages availabile for purchase. Prizes for the top 3 teams and 50/50 drawings.

Today is the National POW/MIA Recognition Day. It was established in 1979. The Harry D. Jerred Sons of The American Legion Squadron 215 have placed a POW/MIA Empty Table in the Angie W. Cox Public Library. The table is round, to show our everlasting concern. The tablecloth is white, symbolizing the purity of their motives when answering the call to serve. The single red rose reminds us of the lives of these Americans...and the loved ones and friends who keep the faith awaiting answers. The yellow ribbon symbolizes our continued uncertainty, hope for their return and determination to account for them. A slice of lemon reminds us of their bitter fate, captured or missing in a foreign land. A pinch of salt symbolizes the tears of our missing and their families. The candle reflects our hope for their return. The glass is inverted, to symbolize their inability to share a toast. Let this serve as a reminder for all f us to spare no effort to secure the release of any American prisoners from captivity, the repatriation of the remains of those who died bravely in the defense of liberty, and a full accounting of those missing. Let us rededicate ourselves to this vital endeavor.

We have a POW/MIA Memorial Table on display in the Angie Cox Library on North Main Street in Pardeeville. It will be on display all month. Stop by and check it out. Don’t worry, there is a sheet on display with it explaining the table items on it.

The Sons of The American Legion squadron in Pardeeville is looking to borrow an awning/tent during the course of the Watermelon Festival next Saturday to provide protection from the weather/sun for the men who will be volunteering at our table. Please let us know if you can help.

Got back from the American Legion Legacy Run last night, finished it off with the Iron Butt challenge. Total was 2,575 miles in 7 days! That’s what they call Wind Therapy.

Thank you to all veterans who earned the Purple Heart Medal. This is awarded to any member of the US Armed Forces who is wounded in combat.
