The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced the availability of $7 million in grants for organizations that provide transportation services to rural veterans.
Grant funding is available to veteran service organizations and state veterans service agencies that provide veterans transportation services to and from VA or VA-authorized health care appointments. These funds are made available through the Highly Rural Transportation Grants Program, which provides transportation programs in counties with fewer than seven people per square mile.

American Legion National Headquarters is looking for volunteers to help with the 2026 National High School Oratorical Contest Finals at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich., May 15-17. The contest features more than 50 high school youth from across the country who deliver prepared speeches on the U.S. Constitution. The support of many volunteers is needed to conduct the contest, which will provide more than $203,000 in college scholarships.
Needed volunteer positions include judges, escorts, and holding room and assigned topic room monitors.

Last week The American Legion submitted a Statement for the Record to the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs GOP/House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Democrats on Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity that addressed the Legion’s positions on pending legislation. Included expressions of support for increasing educational assistance for veterans in full-time apprenticeships or other on-job training, the creation of a pilot program to add a new component to the Transition Assistance Program to provide servicemembers with counseling, and more.
