Congratulations to KD5CTU, Sam Martin, on obtaining his general license!! We are proud of you, and I can see Dr. Jay Springman grinning from ear to ear. He would be very proud too.

GCARC met on Monday night (yes, I am running behind….). Instead of a regular meeting, we used this meeting for a little “education”. Luke Hoggard presented a program on VarAC.

From Google: “VarAC is a modern HF P2P real-time chatting and emergency communication (EmComm) application for amateur radio operators, leveraging the VARA protocol. VarAC is used by more than 80,000 amateur radio operators in over 100 countries.”.

I am sharing photos of the slides and the equipment. If you have questions and are interested in learning more, Luke and Jason can fill you in.

We had a good turnout for the Christmas party last night. We had some music to start with, a really nice meal, and a chance to visit. We were especially glad to have family members join us last night too. We also decided to collect toys to donate to the Community Christmas toy drive. (They are on the table next to the young lady taking the pictures for us.).

We have had a good year, and we are already making plans for another good year in 2026. We will observe Winter Field Day on January 24 at the pavilion at Lake Frierson. One does not need to be a member of our club to attend and participate in our meetings and activities. We welcome any HAMs to join us.

If anyone is interested in becoming a HAM, we can help with that. If you need help with an antenna or a radio, we can help with that. There is a lot of knowledge sitting at the table when we meet, and we love to share.

Our monthly meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of each month except for the Christmas party, which is held in place of the weekly net. The net is held at 7:00 each week on 145.475. Drop in and contribute to the conversation any time.

Merry Christmas!!!
