This afternoon, the kids and I explored a creekbed, and I captured this image of an exposed root system. Nature is truly beautiful. 🍁

Our Western Rat Snake at the nature center laid eggs, so I got the privilege of incubating them. Although there was only one good egg, I’m proud to say I successfully hatched this beautiful little fella! 🐍

Western Rat Snakes are an important part of Arkansas’s ecosystem. As natural predators of rodents, they help keep populations in check, benefiting both our native environment and people by reducing the number of mice and rats around homes, farms, and barns. They’re also a valuable part of the food chain, helping maintain the balance of our native wildlife.

Snakes like these are often misunderstood and feared, but they play an important role in our environment and deserve our respect and protection.

What beautiful creatures these guys are! Getting to witness the beginning of this little fella’s life is a pretty special experience. He has a really cool stripe! ❤️🐍
