There are some items, such as binders, tucking gear, prosthetics, etc that are the primary need for many trans individuals. These items are difficult to access because of cost, virtually no secondhand options, and lack of size flexibility of these items.
I would like to make it easier for trans people in the community to access these items as well as clothing, as both are important to alleviate dysphoria.
As of right now, I have had individuals come to me in need of a 3X binder an XL binder, and a small binder which I was unable to provide them with. I want to be able to do better for this community.
I want to ask the community I serve (you) how they would like to see the funding raised for this. Feel free to comment any suggestions for this other than the ones I am about to list in this post.
1. Of course there is always the option to simply accept monetary donations, I haven't felt comfortable asking for monetary donations in the past because all of our items so far have been donated so it has been costing me virtually nothing but a small amount of gas and laundry money to keep the closet running. I'm still unsure about utilizing this method to raise money for the closet.
2. Another option I've been considering is an auction for select items. We have a few enormously poofy formal gowns I'm sure someone would love, but they aren't incredibly practical for helping out with day to day dysphoria and take a lot of closet space. We also have some other items that were donated that aren't clothing that the donor gave us permission to give to a thrift store that could be auctioned as well. Depending on what you all think the auction(s) could be held in person or online.
3. Something else I've considered is a traditional fundraiser i.e. car wash/bake sale, however there would have to be enough people interested in participating in something like that for it to be feasible.
I would really like to hear your thoughts about these or other ideas!
