NEA Transition closets Virtual hub for LGBTQ people in need to receive clothing+hygiene products

Another update:

We haven't had a physical location in over a year since moving to California.

However:
There are a lot of people messaging who wish to donate clothing or are in need of clothing.

If you have clothing you'd wish to donate I would be more than happy to post it for you on this page, and help you+anyone who is interested set up a meeting time and place.

ALSO:
If you are in need of a binder, shape wear, need help with surgeries or hrt please feel free to send your fundraiser links here or requests for clothing in a specific size.

I am more than happy to boost fundraisers to help you. Plus there is a community of people following this page likely to have items you might need.

I currently don't have anyone able to continue the physical clothing closet, but that doesn't mean that the work here is done.

UPDATE: All was purchased from the original list, but since folks are being so generous we updated this one with more postpartum and baby things: https://a.co/8A2KDdl

Thank you!!! We will post a full update this afternoon.

ORIGINAL POST: 🌿☎️ Call to community!! 🙌🏽

We have an expectant mother in our community who is utilizing every free and low cost resource she can get, but she still needs some help in preparation for her firstborn child 👩🏾‍🍼 as her housing situation is settled:

- diapers (newborn +)
-car seat
-diaper bag
-bottles
-baby blankets
-baby wipes
-bath essentials
-play pen and 🧸
-clothes (socks, hats, onesies etc.)

With the exception of the diapers all these items don’t have to be new, they can be gently used and cleaned thoroughly. 🧸
You can drop off to Lucie’s Place between 11-4:30 Monday-Fri or contact Trisha for alternate drop off windows.

For convenience these have also been added to our Amazon General Wishlist 🔗 in our bio! Alternated for specific items are acceptable.

Let’s get this mother all the help she needs to welcome this child! 🫶🏽

ANNOUNCEMENT:
Y'all knew it was coming, I will be moving in a couple of weeks. Previously there was an idividual planning to take over the closet when I moved, but due to unforseen health issues that person will NOT be able to take over the closet.

Meaning:
Around August 15 the closet will close unless someone (or multiple people) want to take over when I leave. If you're interested please let me know!

To donors:
Thank you so much for your contributions, you have helped so many q***r people in our community this summer and I've been so thankful to get to be a part of it, and to meet all of you. If I can't find any person(s) interested in taking over the project and some of your donated items are still in our stock I'll contact you, and you can decide whether you'd like them back or for them to be donated to lucies place (a homeless shelter for q***r youth in little rock). I hope the project continues to serve the need in our community, in times like these we need to have each other's backs.

In light of recent events, as a q***r couple my husband and I are apalled and terrified. Please be patient if it takes us a bit longer than usual to reply to your messages. We understand you are likely as scared as we are and apologize for any inconvenience.

There are some items, such as binders, tucking gear, prosthetics, etc that are the primary need for many trans individuals. These items are difficult to access because of cost, virtually no secondhand options, and lack of size flexibility of these items.
I would like to make it easier for trans people in the community to access these items as well as clothing, as both are important to alleviate dysphoria.
As of right now, I have had individuals come to me in need of a 3X binder an XL binder, and a small binder which I was unable to provide them with. I want to be able to do better for this community.
I want to ask the community I serve (you) how they would like to see the funding raised for this. Feel free to comment any suggestions for this other than the ones I am about to list in this post.

1. Of course there is always the option to simply accept monetary donations, I haven't felt comfortable asking for monetary donations in the past because all of our items so far have been donated so it has been costing me virtually nothing but a small amount of gas and laundry money to keep the closet running. I'm still unsure about utilizing this method to raise money for the closet.
2. Another option I've been considering is an auction for select items. We have a few enormously poofy formal gowns I'm sure someone would love, but they aren't incredibly practical for helping out with day to day dysphoria and take a lot of closet space. We also have some other items that were donated that aren't clothing that the donor gave us permission to give to a thrift store that could be auctioned as well. Depending on what you all think the auction(s) could be held in person or online.
3. Something else I've considered is a traditional fundraiser i.e. car wash/bake sale, however there would have to be enough people interested in participating in something like that for it to be feasible.

I would really like to hear your thoughts about these or other ideas!
