Recent days in the Omaha metro have underscored the extraordinary risks inherent in our line of work. We are deeply proud of our members and all law enforcement officers who make the conscious sacrifice to put themselves in harm's way so that others may be safe.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #2 member injured this morning. Metro law enforcement is a team effort and we are thankful for the fast response by all those involved.

News Release:
Omaha Police investigate officer involved shooting at 32nd and L Street
Wednesday, December 3, 2025

Three Omaha Police officers were injured and a man is dead after an officer-involved shooting at the QuikTrip at 32nd and L Street Wednesday afternoon.

Uniform Patrol officers went to Phil’s Foodway at 3030 Ames Avenue at 12:20 p.m. to investigate a shooting with a man struck multiple times by gunfire. Omaha Fire Department medics took the man from this scene to the Nebraska Medical Center in critical condition. Officers learned a Hispanic male was the suspect, and discovered the suspect vehicle description.

Officers with the OPD Assault and Gang Units located the suspect vehicle in the area of 38th and Harrison Street. Surveillance was established and detectives followed the car to the QuikTrip at 32nd and L Street. The suspect exited his car and went into the QT, and then entered the men’s bathroom.

Officers entered the QT once other detectives arrived to assist. Officers attempted to call the suspect out of the bathroom and an initial exchange of gunfire occurred. One officer was struck at this time. Officers retreated outside the main bathroom door and tactically positioned themselves, again calling the suspect out. The suspect exited the bathroom and opened fire, injuring another officer. Officers returned fire, killing the suspect. There was one civilian inside the bathroom at the time of the first volley of fire. He was safely called out before the second encounter with the suspect. A third officer was injured by shrapnel. Both encounters inside the QT were captured by body-worn camera footage.

The injured officers were taken to the Nebraska Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. One officer has been released, and two remain at the hospital to receive treatment.

The Omaha Police Department Officer Involved Investigations Team is being assisted by investigators from the Nebraska State Patrol, the Bellevue Police Department and the Papillion Police Department. The Douglas County Attorney’s Office will be briefed on this incident.

The investigation is ongoing. Various aspects of this incident were captured on officers’ body-worn cameras and other available surveillance.

The involved officers have been placed on paid critical incident leave, per department policy. They will be interviewed at a later date, and the Omaha Police Department Public Information Office will provide an updated news release as more information becomes available.

**EDIT: This photo was taken during a joint training exercise with Gretna Fire and Vala’s staff

Earlier this week, a critical medical incident occurred at Vala’s Pumpkin Patch that required an immediate and coordinated response. Gretna Firefighter/EMTs and Firefighter/Paramedics on duty, the on-site medical staff at Vala’s, the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office, and other Vala’s team members all worked seamlessly together to provide rapid, life-saving care.

This event is a powerful reminder that it truly takes a village. In moments like these, every role — from first responders to medical staff to supporting team members — plays a vital part in ensuring the best possible outcome. The professionalism, communication, and teamwork displayed by everyone involved made all the difference.

Equally important is what comes after — taking time to debrief and support one another. Critical incidents can be emotionally challenging, and debriefings help teams process what happened, learn from each experience, and take care of their own mental and emotional well-being.

We’re proud of the dedication, compassion, and cooperation shown by everyone involved. When emergencies happen, our community stands strong together.
