👏 Some good news! On Thursday, April 30 Colorado Senator Michael Bennet along with Martin Heinrich (D-NM), Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Ron Wyden (D-OR) introduced the Public Lands Integrity Act. This legislation would block future attempts to sell off federal lands via a fast-tracked process in a budget reconciliation bill, which allows for passage in the Senate by a simple majority vote. The Act would prevent a repeat of proposals to dispose of public lands, like what happened in July 2025 with the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

Today, under current rules, any senator could propose expedited public land sales in a future budget reconciliation bill—the Public Lands Integrity Act would eliminate that option. The bill would designate the sale or disposal of public lands as “extraneous” by amending the Congressional Budget Act’s (CBA) “Byrd Rule.” The “Byrd Rule” makes “extraneous” provisions subject to a point of order and a 3/5th majority vote.

Public lands belong to all Americans and should never be treated as a budget offset or bargaining chip. Decisions of this magnitude deserve full public debate, transparency, committee review, and bipartisan support. Way to go, Senator Bennet! Reach out and let him know you support this bill. 📢

Riverfest is happening this Saturday, and we’re still looking for a few more volunteers to help make the day a success!! 💪

🌿WSCC is a grassroots organization, and our work protecting lands and watersheds while educating and connecting the community is only possible because of the passionate volunteers and supporters who show up for this region. As we celebrate the 24th year of Riverfest, we’re incredibly proud to continue offering this fun, family-friendly event free to the public.

Events like Riverfest are powered by community, and we’d love a few more helping hands! Volunteer roles include things like helping direct parking, assisting kids with activities, pouring beer, checking IDs, and more - many shifts are only about an hour long!
Plus, when you volunteer with us, you'll receive one free drink ticket and a ticket to be entered into our Bingo giveaway! 🎟

If you’re able to lend a hand, please check out the volunteer sign-up here: https://signup.com/go/fsOYTZE 💙

Whether you volunteer, attend, or simply help spread the word, we’re grateful for your support and for this amazing community! 🫶
