July was an incredible month here at Let Music Speak. Nashville-based artist Kyshona led students in a week-long songwriting workshop that resulted in three original collaborative songs, album artwork and all. These songs will be debuted at a LIVE concert in Paoli, Indiana in the coming months, date TBD. This is part of the “PaoliFest Presents” series that will replace PaoliFest until it is safe to hold large gatherings again. Attendance will be limited, so keep an eye out here to reserve tickets!

Violinists and violists Juliette Javaheri and Jordana Greenberg presented an in-person (masked!) strings camp in Houston, Texas for youth ages 8-18 that culminated in a beautiful performance for family and friends. Participants learned new repertoire, performed in masterclasses, and ate lots of great snacks.

Oh hey there! As summer approaches, we’d like to give some updates about our activities this year.

We have missed celebrating music and art together in person, but we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to figure out when we can responsibly hold our next festival, and how to keep the PaoliFest spirit alive in the meantime!

While we are disappointed not to have a full-fledged PaoliFest again, we could not be more excited about “PaoliFest Presents”, featuring The Songwriting Studio by Kyshona Music. A free, intensive, week-long program for youth ages 12-17, students will learn the parts of a song, how to incorporate the use of journaling into their songwriting, as well as how to use their art to promote change.

July 19-23, free...spread the word!

Dear Friends,

We hope you are all well, or as a friend put it: Staying positive and testing negative!

This year has been full of challenges for Let Music Speak, the largest, of course, being the cancellation of PaoliFest. Very tentative plans are being put into place for 2021, and we look forward to keeping you updated on those.

However, we are so happy to tell you about a new program we started this year, inspired by a desire to continue making music, no matter what:

The Sam Greenberg Music Scholarship
This program provides funding for students anywhere in the world to have private violin, viola and cello lessons, both in person and online. Many students and their families are not in a financial position to afford private lessons; this new fund will cover all costs for students to study with world-class musicians, as well as provide tuition to music camps and supply strings, rosin and other necessary materials.

In partnership with violinist and violist Juliette Javaheri, we hope to provide scholarships for up to 20 students per year. We already have a waiting list of students interested in the program, and are currently able to support lessons for four students. The average annual cost for each student is $5,000.

This is a large undertaking, but one that we are passionate about. We have had so many conversations that end in the same question: “Where would we be without music in our lives?”

Please consider making an annual or a one-time donation to The Sam Greenberg Music Scholarship.

About Sam: Sam Greenberg (1985-2007) was a wildly talented pianist, improviser and songwriter. He loved music.

Dear PaoliFest Community,

We’ve made the tough decision to cancel this year’s festival due to continued risks from the Covid-19 pandemic. We are truly sad not to be able to hold PaoliFest III this August, and can’t wait until we can celebrate art and music together again. We will continue to follow the guidance of experts in order to do our part in keeping our community safe.

We know that when we can return, it’ll feel better than ever...’til then, be well, keep your ears open, and we will see you as soon as we can!

Love,

The PF Team

Dear Race Participant,

We are writing today to update you on the HeARTland Hustle 2020. These are challenging times, and they call for creative responses. We are very excited to be able to offer an amazing alternative to the original event, which cannot be held at this time. The HeARTland Hustle will be a virtual race this year, and you can run it at any time from April 11-April 30! You will be able to submit your time, and can choose any 3.1 miles route that you’d like, including running on a treadmill. Our official race course is a great option, too, and we will provide a map and directions.

This event is intended to be a fundraiser for PaoliFest, our annual free music and arts festival in JayCee Park. However, in response to the current pandemic, we are diverting all proceeds to Covid-19 Relief. There are so many people who are experiencing hardship during this time, and this is one way we can contribute to the imminent needs of the community.

Virtual 5K
To give you the best race experience possible, we have moved your registrations to a different platform that better hosts Virtual events. While this is not a big deal and you probably won't know any different, we will need one small favor from you. Please go to https://runsignup.com/ClaimAccounts
and either claim your HeARTland Hustle registration under your current RunSignUp account or create a RunSignUp account. This will allow you to submit your virtual results. Virtual results of your 5k can be submitted from April 11th-30th @ https://runsignup.com/vr/HH5K. Don't worry, we'll remind you again later!

It’s also incredibly important that we all stay as healthy and sane as we can, while practicing social distancing. Movement is a wonderful way to boost our immune health, our mental health, and our physical health!

We hope you will join us in spreading the word, recruiting new participants, and raising as much money as we can! Registration will remain open through April 30th @ https://runsignup.com/Race/IN/Paoli/HeARTlandHustleTheLotusDIckeyDash

With Gratitude,

The HeARTland Hustle Team
