In 2002, some “survivors” of catastrophic medical losses talked with their pastors and community leaders and asked a simple question:
“How can we share our blessings and thankfulness and help others who may walk the same path?”
That question helped inspire the Good Samaritan Fund through the Orange County Community Foundation. It reflects the same spirit as the Good Samaritan, who sacrificed his time and resources to help a stranger in need. His example teaches us how to share another’s burden and make that burden a bit lighter.
~~~THE HOPE~~~
Through the Good Samaritan Funds established with the Orange County Community Foundation, anyone can be a Good Samaritan. The fund provides financial assistance to those facing catastrophic medical losses across Orange County.
Good Samaritans, through this fund, will serve Orange County well into the future, but your help is needed right now.
We all tend to take life and health for granted until tragedy strikes in the form of accident or illness. In those moments, we realize just how precious and fragile life really is.
Everyone knows someone who has faced a life-changing diagnosis or accident such as cancer, organ failure, a serious injury, or caring for an ailing child. Beyond the cost of treatment, families often lose income when they cannot work. The added burden of travel to medical centers, doctor appointments, and therapy visits can quickly become overwhelming.
That is where the Good Samaritan Fund steps in. We help cover these unplanned expenses and ease the strain so families can focus on what matters most, healing and hope.
Every dollar given to the Good Samaritan Fund provides assistance to families in Orange County. Since 2005, the Good Samaritans have helped more than 200 families with over $200,000 in support raised through community generosity and events like this one.
You can help ease the burden for families facing catastrophic medical costs. There are many ways to get involved:
1. Include the Good Samaritan Fund in your charitable giving
2. Talk to your pastor about establishing a Good Samaritan Day at your church
3. Include the Good Samaritan Fund in your will and estate planning
4. Plan special Good Samaritan events at work, in your service
organizations, or through your church
5. Remember those in need, and those working to help them, in your prayers
