Following this weekend’s "No Kings" rallies, many are asking: What did this achieve?

Change rarely happens overnight, but the numbers tell a story. As of March 2026, we are seeing a historic shift in Washington. Record-breaking numbers of incumbents, including over 35 House and 10 Senate representatives, have announced they will not seek re-election. This is the highest turnover we’ve seen in nearly a century.

Protest is a pillar of democracy, but it’s only the first step.

To turn energy into impact, we must stay consistent:
✅ Vote in every election (local, state, and federal).

✅ Contact your elected officials directly.

✅ Attend local meetings.

✅ Volunteer for the communities most impacted by new legislation.

From the Women’s Suffrage Parade of 1913 to the Voting Rights Act of 1965, history shows that peaceful assembly reminds our leaders that they govern only with the consent of the governed.

Mark Your Calendars: The next day of action is projected for May 1. Let’s remind our representatives that our democracy is not for sale, it belongs to us.

Today, we celebrate International Women’s Day and recognize the generations of women who have worked to strengthen our democracy.

From the fight for women’s suffrage to ongoing efforts to expand civic participation, women have played a vital role in shaping a more representative and inclusive democracy. The League of Women Voters was founded in 1920 to empower women as voters. That mission continues today as we work to ensure every voter has the information and access they need to participate.

On this International Women’s Day, the League of Women Voters of Bay County celebrates the leaders, volunteers, and community members who continue this important work.

🚨 Your Voice Is Needed NOW 🚨

Votes on the SAVE Act could happen as early as Wednesday in both the U.S. Senate and the Florida Senate.

The “Safeguard American Voters Eligibility (SAVE) Act” has already passed the U.S. House and the Florida House and is now being considered by the Safeguard American Voters Eligibility Act in Congress and the Florida SAVE Act in Tallahassee.

If enacted, this legislation could create serious new barriers to voter registration, impacting millions of eligible Americans, including military families, married women whose names have changed, Americans of color, and families recovering from natural disasters. Many eligible voters do not have easy access to the specific documentation this bill would require.

Americans do not need more obstacles to participate in our democracy.

📞 ACT NOW. Call your senators today and urge them to VOTE NO.

Florida State Senator:
Jay Trumbull
Tallahassee Office: (850) 747-5454
Panama City Office: (850) 487-5002

U.S. Senators:
Rick Scott
Washington, DC: (202) 224-5274
Tallahassee: (850) 942-8145

Ashley Moody
Washington, DC: (202) 224-3041
Tallahassee: (850) 599-9100

Your call matters. Your voice matters. Protect the freedom to vote. 🗳️

🖤💛❤️ February is Black History Month!

A time to celebrate the courage, brilliance, and leadership of Black leaders whose work helped expand opportunity, justice, and dignity for all.

Today, we honor trailblazers from Florida whose contributions deserve wider recognition:

✨ Thomas Warren Long — Born into slavery in Jacksonville, he became a state legislator and championed free public schools in Florida during Reconstruction.

✨ Cataline B. Simmons — A pastor, businessman, and one of the first Black members of the Jacksonville City Council, helping build community and civic life after emancipation.

✨ Doris Ison — A healthcare pioneer in Miami-Dade County whose advocacy led to expanded access to primary care for low-income and uninsured families.

✨ W. George Allen — The first African-American graduate of the University of Florida Law School, who fought segregation and expanded civil rights through legal action.

✨ Sallye B. Mathis — A longtime Jacksonville city council member and civil rights leader who helped open doors in local government and community empowerment.

✨ John Gilmore Riley — A Tallahassee educator and community leader who dedicated his life to empowering students and preserving Black history.

These Floridians remind us that progress is built by everyday leaders whose commitment uplifts us all.

🗳️ As we honor their legacies, let’s also recommit to protecting voting rights and civic participation, because democracy thrives when every voice is heard.

Voting is a fundamental right that should never be made harder.

The SAVE Act would create unnecessary barriers for eligible voters. Our democracy works best when every eligible voter can participate freely.

📣 Tell your Senators to oppose the SAVE Act and protect the freedom to vote.
