We wanted to share a brief update for those who may have heard about the fire at our Executive Director Chris Ackerman’s home yesterday.

Most importantly, Chris, his wife, and daughter are safe. Their family dogs and cat also made it out of the home and are receiving veterinary care as they recover.

We know many people throughout our community know and care deeply about Chris and his family, and we wanted to make sure no one was left wondering about their safety.

We are incredibly grateful for the first responders and everyone who stepped in to help during such a devastating situation.

Thank you as well to everyone who has called, texted, reached out, and shown Chris and his family so much love and support. It has truly meant so much.

A lot happens behind the scenes before a project is complete.

It takes people willing to show up, lend a hand, and put in the work.

We’re incredibly grateful for every volunteer who gives their time and talents to help us serve our communities.

The finished project may get the spotlight, but moments like these are how we get there.

There’s still more work to be done, but this smile was too good not to share.

One of the newest additions to this Aging in Place project is a brand-new front porch and she is already so happy to have a place where she can sit outside and enjoy her home.

Sometimes, it’s the simple things that make a home feel like home.

We can’t wait to keep making progress!

Another Aging in Place project is officially underway! 🏡

Today, materials arrived and the old porch came out as work began on a new, safer porch for one of our clients.

She has been looking forward to this project and seeing how excited she is to watch it come together is exactly why this work matters.

For many of the veterans and seniors we serve, something as simple as a safe, accessible porch can make a big difference in being able to remain safely and independently at home.

We can’t wait to see this one finished!

Sometimes the words of the people we serve say it best.

Whether we’re helping someone remain safely in their home or walking alongside them through an unexpected hardship, the heart of our work is the same: showing up, listening, and preserving dignity along the way.

We’re grateful for the trust our clients place in us and for the opportunity to continue doing work that makes a difference in their lives.

A safer bathroom. A ramp that restores independence. Sometimes, small changes can make a lasting difference for a veteran or senior who wants to remain safely at home.

Our Aging in Place waiting list is growing, and we need your help to keep this work moving forward.

We’re proud to share that our Executive Director, Chris Ackerman, has been named an Honorary Commander for the 325th Civil Engineer Squadron at Tyndall Air Force Base for 2026-2028 term.

The Honorary Commander Program brings military and community leaders together to strengthen partnerships, foster understanding, and build lasting relationships that benefit both the installation and the communities we serve.

We believe meaningful partnerships create lasting impact and look forward to the opportunities this connection will bring.

Congratulations, Chris, on this well-deserved honor!

Behind the scenes!

We spent some time this week filming and editing a new video for Abide Grants Management, answering a few questions we’ve been asked along the way.

We hope these videos help provide a little more insight into what we do and how we support nonprofits through the grant process. We’re looking forward to sharing the finished video with you soon!
