Many Mini Musicians is excited to announce that we have been awarded a Hershey’s Heartwarming Young Heroes Grant of $500! This generous support will help fund our Fine Arts initiatives in partnership with the University of Alabama’s Honors College service program, 57 Miles, in the Black Belt.

We are thrilled to participate in Global Youth Service Day and proud to be the only recognized event in Alabama! Thank you to Hershey’s and our incredible community for making this possible.

In September we awarded two classroom grants for National Arts in Education Week! One of the recipients, Sydney Johnson, shared some photos from the project that Many Mini Musicians’ grant funded!

“3rd grade students are beginning their "Sound of Color" unit on artist Wassily Kandinsky. Kandinsky was known for painting abstract compositions to various different genres of classical music. Students start by viewing some of his works and learning about his condition known as chromesthesia- the condition in which one has the ability to "see" color.
We discuss the ways in which visual art and music can communicate with their audiences. Music uses instruments, key changes, tempo, dynamics, lyrics and more to invoke emotion and atmosphere. Visual art uses the elements of design, such as line, color, and shape, to do the same. When these forms of art are used it conjunction with one another, the result has the potential to be both powerful and unique.
After discussing, students listen to four different classical songs with varying genres, including works by Sergei Prokofiev, Mozart, Beethoven, and Claude Debussy. (HUGE shoutout to Mrs. Brock for getting these songs and composers together for us!). Students listen and paint along with each song, and finally compare and discuss the similarities and differences between their own paintings, as well as those of their peers.
This project is proving to be a huge hit with the students!“

Thank you, Mrs. Johnson, for sharing!! 🎵🎨🖌️
