Last week we had the honor of speaking at the Washington County Chamber of Commerce Luncheon, where we got to share a real, honest look at the unique demographics, challenges, and resources that shape life in Washington County.

We were also proud to present checks to several of our grant recipients doing incredible boots-on-the-ground work right here in the community. Thank you to Chipola Area Habitat for Humanity, The Art of Manhood, and The Arc of Washington-Holmes Counties for joining us, and for the incredible work you do every day. Seeing those dollars go to work for Washington County families is exactly why we do what we do.

Although 2025 presented a number of challenges, it was also a year marked by meaningful accomplishments and community impact. With support from United Way of Northwest Florida, Bay Youth Summer Work Foundation was able to show up in meaningful ways across Panama City, and the impact was felt in more places than one.

We proudly supported athletics at Rutherford High School, providing significant assistance for travel, meals, and end-of-season banquets for the Girls’ Basketball and Girls’ Golf teams—both of which demonstrated outstanding performance this year.

Our organization also extended support to the community by assisting with monitoring a local shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness during the early winter months. In addition, our students actively participated in church-led food drives and drive-through food distribution events, helping to load and distribute food to families in need. Looking ahead, there is a strong vision for collaboration with the City of Panama City to further strengthen our vision for youth apprenticeship jobs.

We also continued to support workforce development through job referrals and endorsements. Notably, we assisted a student from Rutherford High School in securing employment as a recreation aide at the new MLK JR.C enter, following over a year of coordination.

When your health is struggling, it can feel like the rest of your world starts to unravel. Work becomes harder, caring for your family feels overwhelming, and even taking care of yourself can seem out of reach.

Behind every call to 211 is a person trying to find a way forward. In July alone, 1,019 people called 211 for health-related assistance.

Sometimes, asking for help is the first step toward getting back to the life you’re trying to hold together. Call 211, 24/7, any day of the year.

Mark P was wandering the streets of Panama City just after release from prison and was experiencing homelessness.

A high-impact volunteer at Chrome Retreat happened to meet Mark at a fast-food establishment. The volunteer told Mark what the Lord was doing at CHROME, and he accepted the invitation to begin his life change journey.

Mark entered CHROME and was immediately provided shelter, clothing, and food as are all who are welcomed in. He began participating in our faith-based recovery program including recovery classes, small group discussion, and work-therapy. Shortly after, he joined the CHROME security team as his work assignment and accepted the responsibility of welcoming new men and helping keep daily activities organized.

As he reached the end of his Primary Program, Mark expressed interest in CHROME'S Boat reconditioning and engine repair operation. The awesome part was that he would be learning these new skills under the same high-impact volunteer who brought him to CHROME to begin with! Mark committed to CHROME's Vocational Masters Program for a full year after graduation.

Mark is now: learning marketable skills; earning an income; and is restoring his driver's license. As he progresses, he will help train new men in the Vocational Program. Most importantly, Mark is being healed from the spiritual, emotional, and social brokenness caused by years of life-dominating issues. This has been possible through his relationship with God and the support received at CHROME.

Thanks to United Way’s support, Mark found the resources and encouragement that helped change his life.
