High school Juniors Prairie Hust, Kyra Brantner and Arabella Sievers will participate in the Distinguished Young Women of Garfield-Palouse local program. Over $5,000 is set to be awarded this year, and the event theme is "Spring Fling."
The Showcase will be hosted at 6:30pm on Friday, April 17th in the Garfield School Auditorium. Tickets may be purchased at the door via Venmo, check or cash. The cost to attend is $10 ages 12 years and older, children younger are free.
Along with locally awarded scholarships, participants are eligible for a number of college-granted scholarships offered throughout the United States. The local Distinguished Young Woman will have the opportunity to advance to the state and national levels, reaching even greater financial opportunities to advance their future.
The 3 young women competing will be evaluated by a panel of five judges in the following categories: Scholastics (25%), Interview (25%), Talent (20%), Fitness (15%), and Self-Expression (15%). The participant selected as the Distinguished Young Woman of Garfield-Palouse will advance to the state level program, with a chance to become the Distinguished Woman of Washington.
Prairie Hust plans to attend either Western Washington University or Willamette University to pursue a degree in Archaeology. She is the daughter of Josh & Stacey Hust, and she will play her violin for her portion in the Talent category, performing “The Gigue,” from “Sonata in D Minor, Op. 2 No. 7” by F.M. Veracini.
Kyra Brantner is the daughter of Wade and Pam Brantner, and will pursue a degree in Nursing but has not yet determined her university of choice. She will recite a motivational speech that she has written for her portion of the Talent category on Friday night.
Arabella Sievers intends to study Psychology and is still deciding her college of choice. She is the daughter of Tim & Tracy Sievers, and will dance during the Talent portion to the song “Test Drive,” from the movie “How to Train Your Dragon.”
