🌿✨ Support Local. Plant Native. Grow Community. ✨🌿

Today we were so fortunate to learn from the family behind C&S Garden Center and C&S Nursery — three generations working side-by-side, from their retail garden center on Marine in Lawndale to their wholesale nursery on Hauser in Los Angeles, with growing grounds in Fallbrook. Their focus today was California native plants — why they are essential for pollinators 🐝, birds 🦋, water conservation 💧, and building resilient gardens in Southern California.

And here’s the takeaway:
If we truly care about our environment, we need to shop small, family-owned businesses that understand our local ecosystem — and be mindful about relying on big box stores that don’t specialize in regionally appropriate plants.

When you shop local:
🌱 You get knowledgeable guidance
🌱 You support multigenerational family businesses
🌱 You strengthen our local economy
🌱 You plant smarter for our climate

Let’s commit to focusing on natives — plants that belong here, support habitat, and thrive naturally in the South Bay.

🌿 Local Garden Club Giving Back to the Community 🌿

Members of the Riviera Garden Club recently visited Narbonne High School’s Garden Club to support and encourage the students in their growing garden program. The energy and enthusiasm from the young gardeners made the day especially meaningful.

This impactful partnership began thanks to the vision and leadership of Ellyn Meikle, whose dedication to youth gardening and community outreach helped bring the club together with Narbonne High School. Her initiative continues to create lasting opportunities for students to learn, grow, and connect with nature.

Special appreciation goes to Kellogg Garden Products for generously providing soil, manure, compost, and other materials, and to Mike Garcia of Enviroscape for coordinating the delivery and supporting the effort every step of the way.

Judy, our Youth Activities Chair, is working to bring this inspiring project to the attention of CGCI so it may receive the broader recognition it deserves.

The Riviera Garden Club is proud to nurture the next generation of gardeners and environmental stewards.
