RECAP: Last week Wednesday, 75 people from our community, USPCN, CAARPR, Southsiders 4 Peace, Anti-War Chicago, SDS, and others, joined the AAAN to demand outside Oak Lawn Police Department. This month marks the third year anniversary of Leanne Cusak striking and killing Murod Kurdi, the woman who was allowed to leave the scene by Oak Lawn Police officers after admitting to police to drinking before getting behind the wheel and refusing a field sobriety test.

As we all lined up to go through security to attend the monthly Fire and Police Commission Board meeting, Oak Lawn Police limited the number of people allowed to go inside. Despite this, we still managed to fill the entire room, as well as public comment with at least 30 members of the community and supporters of this fight against Oak Lawn’s violence and racism towards our communities.

We have never missed a single meeting in the last four years of our campaign! And until we see justice, we never will stop fighting!

We are outside Oak Lawn Police Department to protest and demand Justice for Murod! June marks the 3rd year anniversary of Leanne Cusack striking and killing Arab American Murod Kurdi. Oak Lawn police did not follow proper procedure and let Leanne go with only a citation for “speeding”, despite her admitting to drinking before getting behind the wheel. Join us now!

Yesterday, AAAN’s youth organizing program hosted a beautiful event showcasing Palestinian and Arab culture, heritage, and struggle. We welcomed a full house of around 150 people, and our family, friends, and community were overjoyed to see all the hard work the youth put into the program during the Spring term

We were elated to end the program with a special Dakba workshop led by our talented instructor and friend, Muhammad Darawshe!

Thank you all who joined us, and we will catch you at the next one!

The youth organizing program of the AAAN serves youth between the ages of 13-18 in a program that focuses on cultural and political education, leadership development, and specifically the Youth-Led campaign to End Racial Profiling.

If you have or know of youth that can join our program, please fill out our interest form in our linktree in bio!
