RECAP: Oak Lawn cops assault Arab 14-year-old at police commission meeting
On Wednesday, August 5th, 2026, during public comment proceedings at the monthly Oak Lawn Fire & Police Commission meeting in Oak Lawn, Illinois, a southwest suburb of Chicago, a 14-year-old Arab American child was grabbed by multiple officers, picked up and slammed into a counter in the back of the public hall, and placed in a choke hold before being pushed out of the room and forced to exit down the stairs.
The AAAN is working with the family to secure counsel and explore all legal options in response to the assault. And we continue to call on Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul to urgently launch an independent investigation into the brutality and continued civil rights violations of the Oak Lawn Police Department.
