RECAP: Last week Wednesday, 75 people from our community, USPCN, CAARPR, Southsiders 4 Peace, Anti-War Chicago, SDS, and others, joined the AAAN to demand outside Oak Lawn Police Department. This month marks the third year anniversary of Leanne Cusak striking and killing Murod Kurdi, the woman who was allowed to leave the scene by Oak Lawn Police officers after admitting to police to drinking before getting behind the wheel and refusing a field sobriety test.
As we all lined up to go through security to attend the monthly Fire and Police Commission Board meeting, Oak Lawn Police limited the number of people allowed to go inside. Despite this, we still managed to fill the entire room, as well as public comment with at least 30 members of the community and supporters of this fight against Oak Lawn’s violence and racism towards our communities.
We have never missed a single meeting in the last four years of our campaign! And until we see justice, we never will stop fighting!
