POST protects open space on the Peninsula and in the South Bay for the benefit of all. As a private nonprofit land trust, we have been responsible for preserving more than 90,000 acres since our founding in 1977. POST works with private landowners and public agencies to create a network of protected lands so that present and future generations benefit from the careful balance of rural and urban landscapes that makes our region extraordinary.

Right now, you're missing most of what's happening around you.

That flower? It has ultraviolet patterns guiding pollinators that you can't see. Your dog's toys? They look completely different to them than they do to you. The mantis shrimp has one of the most complex visual systems on Earth.

The natural world is full of hidden sensory dimensions that animals navigate every day, but remain invisible to us.

On March 3, join POST and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Ed Yong for "The Amazing Nature of Animal Senses" as he reveals the extraordinary ways animals perceive reality - and what it teaches us about empathy, connection, and protecting the wildlife around us.

Weโ€™re excited to share some incredible news: thanks to many years of collaboration and hard work, POST has permanently protected most of Sargent Ranch. Itโ€™s an extraordinary conservation win for South Santa Clara County and California as a whole.

This culturally significant landscape was at real risk of development. Today, it is safeguarded forever, strengthening regional connectivity for wildlife, and supporting clean water, ecosystem resilience, and community health in our region. Importantly, it also helps preserve the core of the Juristac Tribal Cultural Landscape, held sacred by the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band.

Thank you to the many partners who helped make this possible. Our stewardship work at Sargent Ranch is just beginning! Amah Mutsun Land Trust, Land Trust of Santa Cruz County, Santa Clara County Parks, Valley Water

On crisp January mornings, frost โ€” and even a rare snowfall โ€” can turn local landscapes into a sparkling display of natureโ€™s artistry. ๐ŸŒจ๏ธโ„๏ธ

Back in 2023, POST-protected Windy Hill received a rare dusting of snow that settled on trails, hillsides, and coastal overlooks, transforming the landscape into a fleeting winter wonderland. Even closer to home, frost forming on your windshield or on backyard leaves creates delicate ice crystals, each shaped by temperature and humidity. Pausing to notice these patterns is a small but joyful reminder of the intricate, beautiful physics at work all around us.
