🐣 Seagulls grow rapidly and don't emerge from their nests until almost fully grown!
🍃 Leaves of 3? Let them be! Poison oak turns red and shiny in the summer but can cause a rash all year long. In the winter they lose their leaves, but for those especially sensitive even the woody stems can still cause a reaction.
🐝 Did you know that our native bees are proven to be more effective and efficient at pollinating than the honey bee? In fact, the National Sustainable Agriculture Information Service, found that pollinating an acre of apples requires 60,000-120,000 honey bees; the same area can be pollinated by 250-750 mason bees.
🌳 A lot of what we have learned about seasons does not reflect a lot of how the world works. The more you learn about your local landscape the more the seasons reveal themselves to you. California has different blooming flowers year long that provide food for many creatures. Different migrating birds visit here in the fall and winter and help signify the changing seasons. Take a closer look, you'll see how fascinating our seasons are!
🐿️ Ground squirrels are highly underrated. Not only do they create dens for a multitude of species, they also aerate soil, help with water retention in the ground, and are a great food source for many flashier species different raptors, coyotes, and foxes.
