📢Become a Canopy-certified Community Forester through UC Climate Stewards! (Para español, véase más abajo)

Canopy is offering a FREE Climate Stewards certification course in Santa Clara and San Mateo County. This 10-week course prepares participants to integrate nature-based climate solutions within their communities through community science projects, environmental stewardship, and climate communication to advance ecosystem resilience in the urban forest.

Upon completion of the course, students can:
🌳Receive certification as a UC Climate Steward
🌳Become a Canopy-certified Community Forester
🌳Obtain 4 undergraduate credits for a fee through UC Davis (optional)

📢Join us this Saturday to explore the Roots and Stars Arboretum—the 1st accredited arboretum on a public K-12 school campus in California—and stay to be part of the community shaping East Palo Alto’s urban forest for years to come.

Arboretum Activities (11 a.m.-3 p.m.) will include:

🌳A community art project
🌳Fruit tree adoption
🌳Free tree sign-ups and virtual site assessments
🌳An "Ask an Arborist" table

Ever wonder how city trees flourish? ✨🌳 Some of our 9th graders found out firsthand.

During Kehillah Prep's Service Day, our newest Rams partnered with to survey young trees in our Palo Alto neighborhood, a small way of contributing to a healthier community right where they live.

At Kehillah, justice means recognizing what's unfair, underserved, or unbalanced and taking responsibility for building something better.

📢Canopy is hiring for two positions:

🌳Salesforce & Systems Administrator (Full-time, hybrid)
Under the guidance of the Director of Impact, the Salesforce & Systems Administrator will help maintain and optimize Canopy’s Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) Salesforce instance, supporting staff with reliable tools, accurate data, and the training needed to use the system effectively.

In addition to day-to-day Salesforce administration and maintenance, this position supports related data platforms and system integrations, develops documentation and training materials, and contributes to longer-term technology planning and implementation.

🌳Community Forester - Santa Clara County (Full-time, hybrid)
Under the direction of the Director of Community Forestry, the Santa Clara County Community Forester will be responsible for leading Canopy’s tree programs for the City of Palo Alto and Mountain View, primarily by organizing tree planting and stewardship activities with key partners, tracking the work, and delivering on our contracts and grants in those service areas. This position is an excellent opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of urban forestry, to work collaboratively with others, and to affect positive change in our communities and the environment.

🌳 The Young Tree Care Survey is off to a great start! Our volunteers and Teen Urban Foresters led routes in the Greer Park neighborhood and did an amazing job assessing Palo Alto's young street trees with the support of Canopy staff. The survey allows community members to help identify young trees in need of care to help grow a strong, resilient urban forest 🌿

There's plenty of upcoming dates for you to join this participatory science opportunity, including a virtual training on Friday 7/10 and survey session on Saturday 7/11. Sign up at canopy.org/events to join us! 🔗

In this report, you’ll read a collection of stories about what we accomplished and built together in 2025: the planting and accreditation of the Los Robles-Ronald McNair Arboretum, fruit trees finding their ways to local families and homes, the first bilingual UC Climate Stewards and Community Forestry School course, Teen Urban Foresters growing into community leaders, and more.

🌳 Do you love trees, your community, and getting outside? The Young Tree Care Survey needs you!

Every summer, Canopy volunteers walk Palo Alto neighborhoods to check in on hundreds of young street trees — assessing water needs, spotting damage, and helping the City keep its urban forest thriving. Your findings go directly into a report used by the City of Palo Alto. 🌿

In-person survey sessions run June–August, and virtual training sessions are available to get you started. Kick things off with us at Seale Park!
