On Thursday evening, July 30, several board members of Ventura County Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice attended a listening session at the Ventura County Office of Education in Camarillo.

We stood in solidarity with the African American Clergy Coalition and its ongoing efforts to end race-based bullying in our local schools. The session gave VCOE an opportunity to share its reflections and responses following an earlier meeting where the AACC raised concerns about this important issue.

Together, we remain committed to creating safe, welcoming, and equitable schools for every student.

Thank you to the Ventura County community, families, educators, and partners who joined the Community Forum on Black Student Safety, Belonging, and Wellness.
The preliminary findings made one message clear: Black students deserve to feel seen, heard, safe, valued, and represented in their schools. Conversations centered on three key areas—trust, cultural affirmation, and belonging—and highlighted the need for greater transparency, meaningful representation, culturally responsive support, and stronger spaces for Black students to connect and thrive.
This report is only the beginning. In the coming weeks, GETA will release a parent guide, followed by the full report and recommendations.
The community has spoken. Now it is time to turn listening into action and work together to build schools where every Black student can feel safe, supported, and empowered.

Behind the walls of immigration detention centers are thousands of human stories. This carousel summarizes key findings from reporting on the Adelanto ICE Processing Center in California. Understanding these realities helps us engage in a more informed conversation about immigration policy and human dignity.
