We were unfortunately unable to change the name of this page (if anyone knows anyone at Meta ...?) so we've started a new one! Please head over to Baylands Nature Preserve parkrun and follow the page. All photos, announcements and information will now be posted there.

We've had a few questions around the upcoming course move, so we wanted to share some info here so you're all up to speed:

Is the move permanent or temporary?
It's likely to be a long-term temporary move. Even though it could be stop-start, the construction work at Byxbee park is on the tidal bridge and water treatment plant, and is scheduled to take around two years in total. Consequently the Rangers informed us we needed to move for the full duration of the scheduled works.

When does the change take place?
This weekend! From September 20, 2025 we will be running at the Baylands Nature Preserve parkrun course.

Why are we starting a new parkrun - why can't we just keep the Byxbee name on the new course?
When we looked at moving to an alternate course, parkrun asked us to take the name of the new area (per their usual policy) and start a new run as we are likely to be there years, rather than weeks or months.

Will Byxbee ever get up and running again?
We hope so! While Byxbee is no longer showing on the parkrun website, it is still there in all the systems, but on pause. Re-activating an old parkrun, particularly when you already have a core team in place and an active run to move there, is pretty easy. So if/when we do move back, we will start where left off (at event no. 251!)

I don't like the new course as much as the old one!
We know that changes like this cause friction, particularly if you are a fan of the old course. The Event directors have worked very hard with the Rangers to get as friendly a course as possible. We really hope you'll give it a chance and keep coming.

As we say goodbye to Byxbee parkrun and prepare to move to our new course at Baylands Nature Preserve parkrun, we wanted to share this poem written by our very own ByxBee, Katherine Ingram.

We know the sense of community at Byxbee means a lot to many of you - we fully intend to carry that forward to the new Baylands course. (More details to follow very soon)

In the meantime, here's to Byxbee parkrun and all who ran her!

Farewell to Byxbee parkrun

Upon a place once cast aside,
Where trash was piled and time had dried,
We ran atop reclaimed terrain
Byxbee, born from loss to gain.

A trail of footsteps, stories spun
Today, we marked our final run.
Two hundred fifty times we came
The fog, the sun, the pouring rain.

And friendships bloomed beside the shore,
A family formed forevermore.
To every volunteer in hi-vis vest,
Who gave their time, who gave their best

You took our times, you cheered us through,
This day belongs as much to you.
And at the heart, one spark began
A vision, crafted hand in hand.

So here’s to Sarah, founder true,
This legacy was born from you.
But don’t mistake this as goodbye
We’re simply shifting, staying nigh.

Another park, a brand-new start,
But still the same great beating heart.

To Allen, Scott and Rob we say,
Thanks for leading a new way,
With countless hours and quiet might,
You've kept the parkrun flame alight.

And though we leave this shoreline bend,
The parkrun joy will never end.
With every step, we carry on
The soul of Byxbee’s never gone.

Wrap up for event 250 (09/13/2025)

Overcast skies provided an muted (but comfortable) background for an emotional milestone of an event. Byxbee parkrun held its 250th event on its 6th anniversary, both of which were celebrated with so many goodies that 221 finishers and 17 volunteers were unable to eat them all. And all of this happened with sounds of construction equipment noisily doing construction things, putting a definitive stamp on the last Byxbee parkrun for a while. Out of all those finishers and volunteers, we had two 25th finish milestones and, even better, a 25th volunteer milestone!

As mentioned, we had two 25th finish milestones (nicely done Andrew Paon and Roger Shaw) and a 25th volunteer milestone (very cool Kenneth Fong). 16 people participated in their first ever parkrun, while 14 tourists did their first Byxbee parkrun, including from England (Surrey and Oxford), Scotland, New Zealand, Australia (Sydney), Germany, Japan, and the US (Austin Texas). 31 finishers enjoyed the cool weather and set new personal bests for this course!

Sad thing 1: This was Brooklyn’s last Palo Alto-based parkrun since she is chasing the call of the sushi and moving to Japan.

Sad thing 2: This was our last event on this course (for now). Starting on September 20, we’ll be switching to an alternate course due to construction in and around Byxbee Park. See https://www.parkrun.us/byxbee/news/2025/08/31/upcoming-course-change-information/ for information about the new course and the significantly better parking options.

Interesting thing: Byxbee parkrun is the only parkrun in North America that used the letter X!

Fun thing: Next Saturday’s event, which will actually be a new event since, close as it is, it is not actually in Byxbee Park, will be your chance to finish an event number one! The event’s name has not been announced yet, but once it is, we will be trolling for a few volunteers (volunteering at an event number one is actually even cooler than finishing it!).

Following are some random stats from the event, including milestone achievements (both official and some unofficial) and some overall event stats.

Byxbee Parkrun is celebrating its sixth anniversary tomorrow, which just happens to also be the 250th event. Come along and run, walk or amble, and stay afterwards for our anniversary picnic. (Don't forget to bring a small plate of treats to share!) And as we've shared already, we are moving to a different course after this week, so it's a great opportunity to round off our time at Byxbee with a party. Hope to see you there!

Reminder - restricted parking at Byxbee parkrun

Just a reminder that there is ongoing construction work on Embarcardero Road which is affecting the quantity of parking available for Byxbee parkrun for the forseeable future.

If the parking in the usual area is already full when you arrive, turn left at the Stop sign and park in any of the lots available, except for the airport.

Remember to arrive a little earlier, as this could add a few minutes to your walk to the start line.
