The Internet Society engages in a wide range of Internet issues, including policy, governance, technology, and development, with more than 110 Chapters worldwide. The San Francisco Bay Area Internet Society Chapter focuses on Internet access issues, diversity, and digital inclusion in California.

Our mission is simple: The Internet is for Everyone.

The San Francisco Bay Area Chapter is currently accepting applications for the upcoming 2026-2028 term.

There are up to 6 seats open, with several current board members running and room for several new faces.

📚 New Report Launch:

Content Moderation in the Global South: A Comparative Study of Four Low-Resource Languages

➡️ The Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT) studied how content moderation systems operate across multiple regions in the Global South, focusing on low-resource languages (the different Maghrebi Arabic Dialects, Kiswahili, Tamil, and Quechua), with the support of the Internet Society Foundation Research grant program.

🌍 This report compares and synthesizes the insights gained from studying the four regions (South Asia, North and East Africa, and South America) and presents recommendations for improving content moderation in low-resource languages of the Global South.
