Each month as part of our My Blue Dots Human Touch series, we are featuring members of Stanford's Radiation oncology team and sharing their thoughts about the important work they do with patients everyday. We are thrilled to feature Pat, a Nurse Coordinator, whose role is to serve as her patients’ advocate during their cancer treatments. She has been at Stanford for 37 years and dedicated to Stanford Radiation Oncology for 8 years.
As a nurse coordinator, Pat is the first point of contact after patients meet with their doctors. Pat guides her patients on how to manage the communication channels between their doctors, faculty, residents and other Stanford service providers. She answers questions patients and caregivers have about treatment process and side effects. During her sessions with her patients, she encourages them to Stay Active, Be Positive and Be Active. Most importantly, live your life as normally as you can.
“My patients surprise me with their positive attitudes and how grateful they are for the job we do for them. During my sessions with them, I strive to provide them with the best patient care by being their biggest advocate and supporter. I love what I do because I see I am making a difference in my patient’s life as I reassure them during their treatment sessions. I love working at Stanford because of the high level of care we can provide to our patients due to partnership between strong academic research and our wonderful doctors. The My Blue Dots Compassionate Pin Program is wonderful program to show patients that the Stanford Radiation Oncology staff cares. I am proud to wear My Blue Dots Pin because I respect and understand what my patients are undergoing through."
