Silicon Valley Bicycle Exchange

Silicon Valley Bicycle Exchange We refurbish bikes for those in need and teach bicycle repair skills to volunteers in Silicon Valley. We also sell amazing used bikes!

Visit our website at bikex.org to see our calendar of open days. Since 1993, the Bicycle Exchange has been fixing used bicycles donated by the public with the help of volunteers - both novice and veteran mechanics. The refurbished bikes are then donated to families in need through our social service organization partners. We fix and give away bikes:
To promote daily bicycle use as a sustainable tr

ansportation choice--school, work, errands, exercise & fitness. To give children the joy of bicycling despite their family’s economic challenges. To stop the rise in childhood obesity and its devastating health effects on children. To reuse, recycle, and conserve resources--both in materials and energy. To teach and share bike repair skills through social workdays. To provide bicycles to adults who need them to get to work and school. Bicycles and parts are donated to our workshop by people who no longer need them. Our typical Bicycle Exchange Workdays are on the second and fourth Saturdays. You can RSVP for a slot at bikex.eventbrite.org. We also desperately need experienced mechanics to help refurbish bikes at home. Please reach out if you're interested in that.

🚲 Back to school = back to bike commuting! With Silicon Valley students heading back to class, more families are ditching the car line for two wheels. Mountain View High student Mia rides her e-bike to school and swears by one thing: preparation.

Her top tips? Practice your route before day one, ride with a friend the first few times, skip the headphones so you stay alert, and always wear a helmet. Small steps now = a smoother, safer commute all year.

We love hearing what recipients of our donated, refurbished bikes think. 🚲💙

We got a message and some recent bike donation photos from the Resident Health Services Coordinator at EAH Housing.

"Thank you so much for the bikes. The residents really loved them.
Whoever selected Hector's bike did a great job—he absolutely loves it! He has been riding it nonstop and says he never gets tired of riding it."

Moments like these are exactly why we do what we do. 🙌
