Project Elisa

Project Elisa Help me Help others Why am I doing this? As such, I wish to participate in the global effort to eradicate poverty, dispair and alienation. Where am I going to go?

After 27 years of raising kids, soul searching and developing a career in sales and health, I am now ready to follow my life purpose and dream which is to pursue an international career in the humanitarian field. I am not driven by any grand vision of social reforms, but by the simple belief that meaningful social actions must begin on the human-to-human level. After studying where my help and ski

lls would be the most needed, I decided to go and work for six months in Africa helping people with HIV/AIDS and the orphans of those who have died of this terrible disease. In the last six months, I will travel to India to work with street children and help women and give them the means (education, support, coaching…) to take good care of their children to put an end to this misery. How can you help? I am reaching out to those of you who feel deeply motivated to contribute, to do your part to help alleviate poverty and alienation in the world, but whose lives’ numerous commitments and obligations prevent you from being able to do so. I am offering you the opportunity to make a change in the world by helping me gather the funds to volunteer a year of my life bringing relief, comfort and love to those in real need. Please donate to help me make this happen. Ending poverty requires one crucial element – you. When you see children’s tears and the conditions in orphanages;
When you see the hopelessness of people living with HIV/AIDS;
When a woman can’t feed her children, is beaten and s*xually abused;
When you hear about the forced prostitution and exploitation of children in the world:

You know you definitely have to do something! Just enough to bring a smile to people’s faces, rekindle their hopes, and be part of a change. Whether you give time, money or connections – you truly can change the world. Orphanages
• Today there are more than 143 million orphans in the world and every two seconds another child becomes an orphan.
• 400,000 orphans die every year due to malnutrition.
• 60 million orphans go to bed hungry, alone, and scared. A lack of food is the orphan's biggest problem. My mission is to give hope, love and comfort to as many needy children as possible and to work in small orphanages to provide the support and education needed to make a difference in their lives. HIV/AIDS

Today in the world, HIV /AIDS kills millions of people. For instance, there are currently an estimated 940,000 people living with HIV in Uganda, and a further 1.2 million children who have been orphaned by AIDS. In the absence of massively expanded prevention, treatment and care efforts, it is expected that the AIDS death toll will continue to rise. I want to help curtail this spreading disease by providing:
• Health care information.
• Coaching to enable individuals to protect themselves and others.
• Help to train health professionals to work in local clinics. Empowering women

Women, especially in developing countries, have inherited a legacy of discrimination and oppression, which manifests in poverty, health issues, violence and limited access to basic needs. Poor, overworked and illiterate--this is the profile of most adult, rural women in the majority of developing countries. In many parts of the world, women are deprived of rights, education, and healthcare. As a woman, educating and empowering women is an issue that is very close to my heart. I would love to play a part to improve the situation of women through education, saving & credit (micro credit), income generative skill training, and raising awareness about health, sanitation and environmental issues. The world is awakening to a powerful truth: Women and girls aren’t the problem; they’re the solution. In parts of India, thousands of children leave their villages each year in search of jobs in the cities. It is a distressing fact that most of these children will make the street their home. They feel alone, abandoned, and distraught, and their homelessness often leads to further abuse through exploitative child labor and prostitution. There are up to one million children held in s*x slavery and prostitution, often for tourists inside and outside the region. They are found in Vietnam, China, Cambodia, Thailand, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Taiwan. Street children have lost their childhood. They have little hope of a better future. My goal is to do my part to help prevent exploitation and migration of children, to help them take pride in themselves, restore their dignity and strengthen their self-esteem. My mission is to help them to have hope for a better future. "Without passion nothing happens. Without compassion, the wrong things happen."

My friend Aubert had made an appointment with me at 10 am, and although I knew it was Haitian time, I was so excited that at 10 am sharp, I was in front of the sanctuary Vodoo, skirt and hat in my bag and my camera ready to go.

After a few seconds of hesitation, I finally enter! I didn’t really know what was going to happen, just that I was going to celebrate the dead on November 1st, at the cemetery, amongst 200 voodooists in a full ceremony, ritual and animal sacrifice included (I found out this last part later on!).

We don’t say voodoo but vodou!

I’ve always heard people talk about it and I’ve always been frightened by it, just the name makes me instantly combines doll, needle, zombies and black magic.

Vodou: even the word is charged of exoticism, mystery, secrets passed down from generation to generation, people sacrificed on altars who are abused during black masses at night in creepy places.

It was during a visit to meet the parents of a girl in the MBB program that I arrived at Kerline’s house. I had to take a motorcycle taxi (we were three with my sidekick) for an hour and a half, barely avoiding all those buses and full taps-taps.
