We are so happy that author and comic artist Grant Snider will be one of our teachers at the 8th annual Wild Wonder Nature Journaling Conference, online September 15-19, 2026.

Grant Snider began writing and drawing as a child, creating pictures, poems, and stories from his imagination—often in collaboration with his twin brother, Gavin. His favorite books were Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein and Sing a Song of Popcorn: Every Child’s Book of Poems. Grant began drawing comics for the student newspaper at the University of Kansas. He later started a weekly online comic strip, Incidental Comics, which was featured in the Best American Comics anthology and collected in the books The Shape of Ideas, I Will Judge You By Your Bookshelf, The Art of Living, and Thinking About Thinking. His latest book is The Year I Stopped Drawing. His book Poetry Comics was named a 2025 ALA Notable Book and a 2025 NEA Read Across America selection. He lives with his wife and kids in Wichita, Kansas, where he works a day job as an orthodontist. His hobbies include cooking breakfast, reading, running, drawing, and redrawing.

Daisy Fancourt is a British researcher and a professor of psychobiology and epidemiology at University College London. Her research focuses on the effects of social connections and behaviours on health, including loneliness, social isolation, community assets, arts and cultural engagement, and social prescribing. Professor Fancourt conducted the first population studies linking arts participation to good health. Her popular science book Art Cure: The Science of How the Arts Transform Our Health was a Sunday Times Bestseller and shortlisted for the 2026 Women’s Prize for non-fiction. She is listed by Clarivate as one of the most highly cited and influential scientists in the world, and ranked #7 in the UK’s list of Best Rising Stars of Science. Professor Fancourt is also a Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre on Arts & Health, and serves as a scientific adviser to the UK government and to the World Health Organization.

Michael Forsberg is an award-winning conservation photographer, author, and educator whose 30-year career has focused on wildlife, grasslands, and watersheds in North America’s Great Plains. Mike co-founded and directs the Platte Basin Timelapse project–a conservation storytelling project that informs scientific research, builds educational content, and tells stories of a Great Plains watershed in motion. Mike is a Senior Fellow with the International League of Conservation Photographers, a member of The Photo Society, and a faculty member at IANR at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. We are so delighted that traveler and nature journaler, Lisa Spangler, Lisa Spangler will be one of our teachers at the 8th annual Wild Wonder Nature Journaling Conference, online September 15-19, 2026.

Lisa Spangler adventures full time in a camper van across the United States, documenting her observations along the way with watercolor, gouache, pen, and ink. Nature journaling helps her stay grounded and form deeper connections with the ever-changing landscapes she gets to call home. She keeps several theme-based journals going at all times, including a journal dedicated to sketching while hiking, another for long driving days, and a perpetual journal for five years. A self-confessed plant nerd, Lisa created botanical illustrations for Wildflower Magazine and designed art products for multiple companies. Lisa was honored to serve as an artist-in-residence at Valles Caldera National Preserve, Capulin Volcano National Monument, Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, Allegheny National Forest, and Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument, where she created artwork to promote these special public lands.

Roseann Hanson is co-founder, operations manager, and treasurer of the Wild Wonder Foundation and co-founder and logistics director of the Wild Wonder Nature Journaling Conference. She has worked around the world as a professional naturalist, author, conservationist and expedition leader; she has kept science-based nature and field notes journals for 40 years; and she has taught more than 150 online and in-person nature journaling, writing, and field arts classes. She is the author of Nature Journaling for a Wild Life, an 8-week guided course for beginners, and Master of Field Arts, a deep-dive into becoming a master naturalist and field artist. We are overjoyed that birder and illustrator, Bird Warde Bird Warde 𓆝 nepeteaa will be one of our teachers at the 8th annual Wild Wonder Nature Journaling Conference, online September 15-19, 2026.

Bird Warde is a birder and illustrator based in Portland, Maine. Bird earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from School of Visual Arts in 2019 and since then has been running their outdoors inspired shop, Camp Mustelid.Through their work, they have cultivated a deep appreciation for the inherent connection of art and nature. Working in both traditional and digital media, they have partnered with numerous organizations including Audubon, Hawk Watch, and Bird Collective. Bird has shared their process of stylizing wildlife and nature journaling with a birding focus through several programs online and throughout Maine. When they aren’t creating, you can find them roaming trails for their next lifer, or hanging out with their pet pigeon.

We are so happy that comic artist and illustrator, Mark Simmons Mark Simmons will be one of our teachers at the 8th annual Wild Wonder Nature Journaling Conference, online September 15-19, 2026.

Mark Simmons is a San Francisco-based freelance illustrator and cartoonist, specializing in comics and graphic storytelling. He has illustrated educational comics and animated operas about heroic animals, doomed sea adventures, and tragic mountaineering expeditions, as well as teaching figure drawing at the Academy of Art University and classes in cartooning, fast sketching, and wildlife illustration for SF Bay Area institutions such as the SF Bay Area Nature Journal Club, the San Francisco Zoo, and the Cartoon Art Museum. He’s particularly fond of bugs, dinosaurs, cool rocks, spherical blobby animals, construction machines, and weird perspective drawing.
