Confucius Day 9.28
Did You Know?
Confucius (551 - 479 BCE), also known as Kong Qiu, given the name of Qiu (丘), courtesy name Zhongni (仲尼), was a Chinese philosopher and educator and a foundational figure in the Confucian tradition.
He believed that education should be accessible to all and emphasized teaching according to each student’s individual abilities. His teachings highlighted kindness, respect, proper conduct, and self-improvement.

On this special day, we also wish to pay tribute to all the teachers who have so devotedly guided us!

On September 22nd, the ACCC held our 9TH Mid-Autumn Moon Festival and volunteer appreciation celebration at 450 Bryant Street. The afternoon was filled with music, performances, laughter, and community spirit. The event featured cultural performances, live music, mooncake storytelling, magic, and a special ACCC Drama Club Moon festival presentation, along with recognition of outstanding volunteers and supporters who have contributed to our community. We are grateful to all our Avenidas members, friends, teachers, volunteers, performers, and honored guests who joined us and helped make the celebration so memorable. Special thank you Supervisor Margaret Abe-Koga - Community Engagement Manager, Jon Hellesoe, for presenting Certificates of Commendation to Andrew, Bill, Ingrid, William, and Desmond for their extraordinary 200+ volunteer hours in FY2025 to 2026.
We wish everyone a joyful Mid-Autumn Festival and hope the full moon brings you great health, peace, and happiness.

A ceremony was held on May 12th to honor the Bayside Cannery on Portage Avenue. Once the third-largest cannery in the U.S., it was owned by Thomas Foon Chew, the “Asparagus King.” His success broke barriers for Chinese Americans during a time of discrimination.

Few buildings epitomize the evolution of Silicon Valley better than the sprawling, lofty structure on Portage Avenue, which began its life as one of the nation’s largest fruit canneries and later evolved into one of Palo Alto’s major retail destination, best known for Fry’s Electronics.
