Last week members of our club completed an annual community project honoring those who have gone before us. 12 urns at gravesites in the Palmyra Cemetery were refreshed with flowers. The gravesites included those of veterans, deceased Pal-Mac Rotarians, and any others in need.

This project had its beginnings in 2012 under the leadership of past club president, Cindy Surline. Since Cindy's move to the south in 2023, Deb LeMoyne has provided leadership. Here are some photos from last week's work.

10 Pal-Mac Rotary members and friends spent a light-filled social time at the Sycamore Golf Club on Friday evening. Wonderful food, drink and conversation flowed. We were visited by owner, Mark Crane (Mark's Pizza), who pointed out the Sycamore Tree, which gives the course its name.

Three generations of the Crawfords were present. Jeff and Bev are members, as well as daughter, Jeanna Skinner. Jeanna's daughter, Elianna, also stopped in. Ellie has participated in a number of club events and is an honorary member.

Thanks to club president, Leslie Vecchiotti, for photos.

The weather was great for our annual Adopt-a-Highway project on Tuesday, April 28! Seven Club members donned work gloves and highway vests, and with big plastic garbage bags we helped beautify a section of Rt. 21, leading into Palmyra.

A truck load of garbage was collected. This year's "Golden Awards" for the most interesting items found included eight bags of once frozen peas and carrots, two jars of peanut butter, a lacy thong, and an almost complete coyote carcass.

Much laughter was had by all as we worked together. After all, we are the Club that "has fun and gets things done." Pictured are Kim Clement, Maurina Schmidt, Bob Yost (who organized this event), Marie Fessler, Aleka Schuth, Dianne Sloan, and Ray Daugherty.

At our April 22nd lunch meeting Club President
Leslie Vecchiotti presented a check to Heidi Barnes who is the Director of Literacy Volunteers of Wayne/Seneca County, for $2,800. This is the amount that was raised in memory of Jim Bush. Heidi shared with us some of the work that the Literacy Volunteers are involved in. They help with programs and services that benefit the whole community with literacy support, from providing families with tools to start literacy development early, to helping adults pursue furthering their own education. Some of their programs are; Books from Birth; Infant and Toddler Book Club; Community Reads; GRASP Peer Tutoring; Road to Workplace Success; and Adult Education. The check that our Club gave to Heidi will be going towards the Community Reads Program.

Jim Bush was a long time member of our club. He was a noted author, whose wit and humor permeated his writing. His widow, Susan, was present and is pictured with President Leslie and Heidi Barnes.

It takes special people to "take the plunge" - a Polar Bear Plunge that is!

On Sunday, April 12, four Palmyra-Macedon members and friends showed that we are indeed 'the Club that has fun and gets things done.' Marie Fessler, Kim Clement, Alise Vjakse, our Rotary exchange student, and host brother to Alise, Tyler Dranichak, plunged into the freezing cold water of Lake Conesus. The reason for this insanity was to raise funds for our District's five children's camps, Rotaract Youth Clubs, and other youth oriented programs sponsored by clubs in our district. This was the second annual "SPLASH!"

It was an all day event with a lot of fun, music, food, raffles, and many, many Rotarians enjoying the beautiful day. The actual plunges started at 3:00 and the Pal-Mac Tutu's entered the water around 3:45!!

Thank you to all who contributed to our club's contribution to this fundraiser. We did have fun, especially after we were dried and back in warm clothes, as well as somewhat in our right minds!

The Priceless Proof of our Plunge is seen in this photo...

We hosted the annual joint meeting with the Palmyra Macedon Lions Club on Wednesday evening. Following a delicious catered meal, we enjoyed a game of Trivia. Six teams that got the club members together, competed. The "In Your Face" team won one of three rounds as well as were the over-all champs. It was great fun.

The final event involved awarding Paul Harris Fellowships to the couple who led the game of Trivia, Bill and Irene Unterborn. This is the highest individual award given to Rotarians, as well as non-Rotarians, for service to the community.

Club President Leslie Vecchiotti and President- elect, Kim Clement, took a very clever and entertaining back and forth, one-upsmanship approach to listing the extensive contributions to the community of first Bill, and then Irene.

The photos below include some of the tables of Rotarans and Lions Club members, Bill and Irene Unterborn leading Trivia, and then being awarded their Paul Harrises by Leslie and Kim.

At our meeting on April 1st....NO FOOLIN!

Tammy Burnett and Stephanie Buchel, from Wayne County ARC, were presented with sizeable checks. They spoke to us briefly about their services. They deliver meals to the elderly and those who are homebound. Deliveries are made from Monday - Friday. They work with the Department of Aging & Youth and determine how many meals a week that an individual might qualify. Meals are prepared on the premise and many of the meal preparers are those who work at ARC. Approximately 118-150 meals are delivered daily. Tammy and Stephanie reported that many of their volunteers get to know, and become very supportive of the clients to whom they deliver. They are always looking for volunteers.

Here is a photo of Club President, Leslie Vecchiotti, with Tammy and Stephanie.

Always the club who loves to support our area organizations helping those in need!

At our evening meeting on March 18, we presented checks to two food bank coordinators: Dave Nagle from Palmyra Food Pantry and Lucille Hamlin from Macedon Food Pantry.

Here is a photo (Jeanna Skinner) of club President Leslie Vecchiotti with Dave and Lucille.

Caren Barth, the Deputy Excutive Director of Miss Julie's School of Beauty, was our guest speaker at our lunch meeting on the 25th of March.

Miss Julie's is an anti-trafficking organization that creates pathways for women out of exploitation, educates the community on trauma-informed practices, and provides vocationbal training that helps break the cycle of revictimization. Miss Julie's is the first, no-cost, thearapeutic/ vocational school in the nation for survivors of s*x trafficking. They concentrate on 2 programs: Rooting - trafficking prevention and services for those at risk for trafficking; and Rising - helping with employment opportunities, trauma awareness and healing.

Following Caren's presentation she was presented with a club mug and a check to support this organization. President-elect Kim Clement did the honors.
