It’s time to get back on the mats!

Mat-Su Matmen Wrestling Club is excited to announce that registration for our upcoming club season is officially OPEN!

Whether your wrestler is brand new to the sport or returning for another season, we’re ready for another great year of hard work, growth, friendships, and wrestling!

📅 Season: January 2027 – May 2027

💰 Registration: $300 per wrestler

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family Maximum: $650

🏆 K–8th Grade Youth Wrestling

The Lancer Smith Memorial is coming up, and we wanted to get Saturday on everyone’s calendar now!

Our Mat-Su Matmen youth tournament will be SATURDAY ONLY this year, for wrestlers in grades K–8. We will be posting the registration link soon, so keep an eye out!

We will also need LOTS of Matmen families and friends to help make the weekend successful, especially on Saturday. ❤️🖤

This year, Matmen will be helping with:

🍔 Concessions
🍽️ Hospitality food and staffing
🤼 Tournament Breakdown/Mat Rollup

Concessions will work a little differently this year. Palmer is renting the concession stand and fronting the food and supplies. Mat-Su Matmen will receive a percentage of the concession profits based on the amount of hours our club contributes, just as we have done in the past.

That means every volunteer hour helps support our wrestlers and our club!

And parents aren’t the only ones who can help! Wrestlers age 13+ who are not competing, siblings, grandparents, extended family, and friends are all welcome to volunteer.

Because the concession area is small, fast-paced, and includes hot equipment and food such as heated cheese dispensers and hot rollers, volunteers under 18 must be mature, self-sufficient, able to follow directions, and capable of completing assigned tasks without constant supervision. This is a working area, not a place to horse around and play. Staying focused is important not only for keeping things running smoothly, but also for preventing burns and other injuries.

We will be releasing a SignUpGenius link for Palmer Boosters as soon as it is ready. Please make sure you sign up through the link rather than just planning to show up. Having an accurate volunteer count ahead of time is extremely important so that concessions, hospitality, and each group can plan accordingly.

In February 2025, the NCAA changed its transgender participation policy across all three divisions. Under the updated rule, athletes assigned male at birth may not compete on NCAA women’s teams, although they may still practice with those teams and receive other student-athlete benefits.

The men’s category remains open to otherwise eligible athletes regardless of s*x assigned at birth or gender identity, provided they meet all other NCAA eligibility requirements. Athletes using banned substances such as testosterone must still complete the NCAA’s medical-exception process.

The policy took effect immediately and replaced the NCAA’s previous transgender eligibility framework, marking a major shift in how participation in men’s and women’s college sports is defined.

They’re coming baaaack! 🏆

USA Wrestling has committed to bringing Women’s Nationals back to The Podium through 2030, giving Spokane four more chances to welcome some of the country’s top female wrestlers.

The championship has called Spokane home since 2023, with more than 2,100 entries competing in 2026. Athletes from youth divisions through U23 will take the mat, with select divisions helping determine who could go on to represent Team USA internationally.

The large building near the center of this photo is The Podium, where Women’s Nationals are held. Approximately 5,390 acres of Spokane have burned across the Spokane Area Fires complex which includes the Old Trails Fire, Fairview Fire, and Autumn Lane Fire. The Old Trails Fire itself is estimated at about 3,500 acres. There is currently 0% containment. Praying for Spokane!

Jude Bailey🥇 1st PLACE at the Dublin Open 2026 in Ireland!

Jude traveled across the world and stepped onto the international stage at the Dublin Open Freestyle Wrestling Tournament at DCU Sports Centre — and DOMINATED. Competing against tough wrestlers from across Ireland and beyond, Jude showed the discipline, and relentless work ethic that represents Mat-Su Matmen so well.

From Alaska to Ireland… CHAMPION. 🌎

We are incredibly proud of Jude for his hard work, courage, and willingness to chase big opportunities. This is what happens when preparation meets heart.
