LUP's beautification project has been successfully completed with the addition of shrubs, pollinators, annuals, and a tree to the parking lot sign area.

We invite you to take a stroll downtown to appreciate the new plantings along Walnut and Main streets. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the town's Department of Public Works and Conservation Agent for their invaluable assistance in helping us launch this project.

Additionally, I wish to thank the dedicated members of our team and our sponsors for their tireless efforts and support, respectively, each of whom played a crucial role in bringing this project to fruition.

With a bit of luck, at some point, we’ll be able to add a bit of art to the area.

For those of you who have been watching the beautification project in downtown Depot Village, the planters are now filled with additional plantings being done on the corner of Walnut Street this Wednesday.

As mentioned in a previous post, this project is a collaborative effort between the Town (DPW and our Conservation agent) and Light Up Palmer.

I would also like to thank the Tailgate Tavern, their employees, and patrons for sponsoring the Soup Off in February. Through these types of fundraisers, we are able to make Palmer a better and brighter place to live.

First, thank you to all the LUP Team that showed up tonight to help out with planter assembly. And ….

If you haven’t seen draft plans for LUP’s collaborative beautification effort with the Town, here they are for you to follow changes.

Additionally, we are very excited to work with DPW and the Conservation Commission on the beautification of the Public Parking area in downtown Palmer. There will be the addition of planters, plants, and shrubbery. Hopefully, before too long, we will be able to add artwork. Thank you Peter Wackernagel for your vision.

Please follow us for further details. If you are a downtown business and would like to add small planters outside your business location, please reach out to us. This project will extend our current efforts in Depot Park.

Lastly, I was so pleased to see more people using the small park downtown. Every Main Street needs green space to “provide residents with vital opportunities for physical exercise and mental well-being, while fostering a stronger sense of community.” Christine Wilson’s Thai Chi class occasionally enjoys the park for class.

Flowers have been added to the planters at Depot Park in time for Memorial Day. (Thank you Russ and Irene Webb for your efforts). Shortly, we will be taking on a beautification project adding plantings to the public parking lot on the corner of Walnut Street.

Additionally, a big thank you goes out to DPW for locating the “Town of Seven Railroads” structure and for the wonderful clean up of Main Street. It looks great!

FYI … We’d love to see additional business owner’s include colorful planters outside their businesses as part of the beautification program. Many communities do this … it draws attention to the business front.

The Palmer Business Partnership (aka Light Up Palmer), is once again thankful to continue our Purple Heart program which is made possible through the support of sponsors, namely the Sons of Amvets and Tailgate Tavern. We also appreciate the continued community dedication by Northern Tree. Thank you, Don Lockwood and your employees for their help getting our display on the poles in time for Memorial Day!

This year, we raised the names of seventy-five Purple Heart recipients on Main Street. The most recent additions being PFC Ellsworth Buchman, Army and PFC Raymond Hebert, Army.

In honor of the 250th Anniversary, we have added celebratory banners in the center of town and at the library. Once the frost warnings are gone, we will include purple salvia and petunias at Depot Park. Thank you Russ and Irene Webb for your help planting.

Please keep your eyes open as you drive by the public parking lot on the corner of Walnut Street. Over the next month or so, you will start to see some changes. LUP will be working in conjunction with the Town’s Conversation Commission to spruce up this area with the addition of planters, flowers and shrubs. We MAY also take on a long awaited art project, dependent on feasibility.

Finally … Thank you to all the Light Up Palmer team members who came out to help with downtown today: Dylan, Kelina, and Ayla Hall, Gloria Byrnes, Dave Golden and Wayne Smith. I would be remiss not to mention our other team who were working to move all our holiday decorations out of the old school (and missed photos) to our new location being donated by John Morrison. They are: Janelle Tarantino and Ava, Phil and Janice Lachut, Nicole Motyka, Tyler and Natalie Brun, and Mike Korzec.

Enjoy the photos … I hope it inspires you to take a walk downtown, while stopping for breakfast, lunch, or dinner at one of our local spots.

The Palmer Business Partnership will once again honor resident Veterans who have been awarded the Purple Heart medal through the downtown banner and flag display.

If you or a family member have received this award and are not currently acknowledged in the display, please reach out to Palmer’s Veterans Agent, Tina Brohman, no later than April 15, 2026 and she will advise us to add the name to a banner at no cost..

Palmer is a Purple Heart Town and we are grateful to those sponsors who support our efforts in this endeavor, particularly the Sons of Amvets and Tailgate Tavern. Banners and flags will be in place for Memorial Day, as well as planting of purple flowers at Depot Park (after frost concerns).

What an awesome day!

Thank you Tailgate Tavern ….The Burke Family, Michele Casey, all helpers and cooks who made today’s Soup Off a huge success.

Additionally, I would be remiss to leave out all those who came out today to support the event. It was the largest fundraiser we have had to date … Thank you, all! You have opened your hearts with generosity toward our cause, while making Palmer a better place to live.

Lastly ….. It was a great way to get together with friends after a snow storm and before the next. For those of you keeping our roads clear, be safe!
