They're in your classrooms, caseloads, clinics, investigations, courts, neighborhoods.

We know that drug-endangered children aren't a separate population that someone else is dealing with. They're already in our communities and they always have been.

1 in 4 children in America lives with a caregiver affected by substance misuse.
That's not a statistic about somewhere else. That's your community.

The question isn't whether you'll encounter them, it's whether you'll be ready when you do... And training always helps! Please reach out to us!

We fight for them, so these children don’t have to.

We are blessed to be part of a community that believes every child deserves safety, hope, and love.

Please join the Mat-Su Alliance for Drug Endangered Children as we continue to stand up, speak out, and show up for the children and families of the Mat-Su Valley.

Substance misuse affects entire families, but recovery and support are possible. If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out. Send me a message, and I can help connect you with resources, support, and someone willing to walk alongside you from darkness into light.

Together, we can make a difference—one child, one family, and one act of compassion at a time.

People have asked me why I took the Drug Endangered Children MDT Coordinator position. The answer is honestly pretty simple… because our children deserve adults willing to step up and fight for them.

For years, I’ve worked in peer support and direct service with families navigating addiction, recovery, and child welfare involvement. I’ve sat with parents during some of the darkest moments of their lives. I’ve seen the fear, the shame, the hopelessness, but I’ve also seen courage, healing, recovery, and families fight their way back together.

And in the middle of all of it are the children.

Children who didn’t ask for the chaos. Children carrying trauma too heavy for little shoulders. Children who still deserve safety, stability, love, and the chance to just be kids.

This position isn’t about a title for me. It’s about purpose. It’s about bringing people to the table and making sure we stop working in silos when children’s lives are at stake. It’s about believing families can heal while also holding firm boundaries and accountability. Both can exist at the same time.

The reality is hard. Addiction is hurting families in every community, and fentanyl is changing the game in terrifying ways. But I refuse to believe the answer is to stop caring or stop trying. I believe prevention matters. I believe collaboration matters. I believe recovery is possible. And I believe children deserve adults who refuse to look away.

This work is heavy, sacred, heartbreaking, and meaningful all at once. And I am incredibly honored to stand beside the law enforcement officers, caseworkers, educators, medical professionals, recovery community, providers, advocates, and parents doing this work every single day.

The Mat-Su is worth fighting for. Our families are worth fighting for. And our children absolutely are.

Silence can sound like “I’m fine”…
But too often, it’s really “I don’t want to be a burden.”

This May, for Mental Health Awareness Month, let’s change the sound of silence. Let’s make it louder with connection, compassion, and community.

Because the truth is: you are not alone.

At Recover Alaska, we believe strong, connected communities are key to supporting mental wellness and reducing the harms of alcohol. When we share our stories, we help others feel less alone - and remind each other that healing is possible.
